Finally Braced! 18 mos to go!

#1 Post by yeahtam »

Braced for 1 week now with 18 months of treatment ahead of me . After 1 week, the pain is gone in my mouth, the brackets no longer cut the inside of my mouth, I can chew again and I can survive the days without dental wax (lol). Maybe it's a figment of my imagination but I noticed that some of my bottom teeth have turned/shifted. I also noticed today that my upper bite feels a different. Maybe it's a figment of my imagination but is it possible for teeth to begin their shifting this quickly? I'm just happy that I finally took the "plunge" and got braces. At 32 years old, its past time for me to hide my smile - it was holding me back from a lot of things I wanted to do with my life. I feel more confident since I've gotten my braces as well. Only thing I do hate: not being able to any and every thing that I want but I can deal with that part. This will lead to healthier food choices. The first couple of days of eating nothing but soup was hard but I survived.

Just wanted to say HI to all :)

Hi yeahtam and welcome to ArchWired.com message board!! :-1

I have been in braces for about a couple of weeks too.Speaking of tooth movement/bone remodelling, yes the osteoclast process of the tooth bone starts about 72 hours after your braces are put on.So we do see some movement afterwards.I saw a terrible change in the position of my canines in about 4 or 5 days after my braces went on the upper jaw.

I was just curious to know what dental problem obstructs your beautiful smile.
Hope to hear good news from you. :flowerbloom:

I have a slight overbite and slight under bite (posting from work, I will update this post later on what exactly my ortho summarized for my treatment). Just noticed this morning another change in my lower teeth. I really should start taking pictures every week to compare the change. I am constantly in the mirror looking and cleaning - I don't want to do anything to prolong my treatment lol.

Hey, there! It sounds like we on the same calendar. I got braced on Oct 2 and also have 18 months ahead of me... and I'm also 32! I noticed changes in the first couple of days when I tried to floss. Some of my teeth moved so much I could barely get the floss between them. I had to have extractions though, because my bottom teeth are too crowded. Just got those done 3 days ago and that is a major headache. I had just gotten used to eating with braces, now I'm confined to soups and other "delicious" liquids. Good luck with your journey!

I am glad I didn't have to go through any extractions, I was worried about that. At the last visit with my dentist he mentioned something about my wisdom teeth and I sighed. I didn't want anymore delays in getting my braces. I am used to wearing them now. I am also used to eating with braces now but not to the point where I am out of control eating hard foods that will cause damage to my wires. Is it weird that I am looking forward to my first adjustment visit in a couple of weeks? I also have noticed that some of my teeth have moved so much that there is no space to thread the floss.

Haha, me too! I thought my adjustment appointment was in November, but I was all excited to see that it's actually at the end of this month. We'll see how excited I am afterwards... I hear adjustments can be painful for a bit.
