Hi from Scotland

#1 Post by saggyhaggis »

Hi,

I've been referred to maxillofacial by an orthodontist. I have my first appointment in three weeks time and have been scouring the web for any info on what work they might propose.

I have an elongated jaw on one side, a very narrow upper rear palate causing a cross bite and the centreline of my top teeth are slightly to the right . Aside from that I'm fine!

The orthodontist said that surgery would be required as braces alone would not be sufficient as my upper arch has very little scope for expansion and my jaw would need to be corrected.

Its good to read other peoples experiences here and helps to put my mind at relative ease.

Thanks.

Ive got my first NHS appointment this Friday (2nd) after being referred by an orthodontist. I can't wait but at the same time i'm apprehensive as I don't know yet whether they will agree to treat me.

I'll keep you posted.

Consultation went really well. Orthodontist couldn't have been more helpful.

After poking and prodding around for a while he said i have to get checked to see if I have any sign of gum disease as there was a little bleeding. I have to wait 4 months to make sure my gums are healthy, then treatment can begin with braces and surgery.

I am having a further appointment with the orthodontist and a surgeon for a more in depth examination, where my options will be explained and I have to take any questions I may have about the treatment.

What a relief!!

Well just had an appointment with the orthodontist, my teeth were inspected and i have been declared match fit and I am now on the surgery waiting list. Should receive a response within 3 months.

I've not had the joint consultation yet but I suppose that will happen in due course.

Things look to be moving now, but don't have any timescales as yet.

I assume the SARPE surgery will be first.
