Anyone else not taking progress pictures?

#1 Post by WendySue1969 »

I am very impressed at how informed people are about their ortho treatment. I have to admit I never thought to take before & during treatment photos- but wish I had now. I haven't been keeping track of what goes on at each visit either & don't ask me what kind of braces I have.

Words like Damon, turbos, powerchains have never come up in conversation at my appointments. Anyone else like me & just go with the flow without asking too many questions & don't document progress?

For me being informed about braces helps because I know what the ortho is saying to his assistants so I don't get freaked out worrying what he's saying. I also love the reassurance I get on this site and you quickly learn all those words and more! As for taking pictures I havn't been documenting it as well as some, since i don't blog or anything but my ortho took 'before' pics and will probably take 'afters' too and I have managed to take 1 pic after each adjustment. i wish i had taken more because my teeth have moved fast so there is a big change between the pictures and now were mostly working on my bite which can't really be seen in pics. But it will be nice to see the changes when I'm done and look back at my 'before' teeth and be shocked!

No way. I'm the complete opposite. I ask all kinds of questions. I ask to see things before they put them in my mouth, or after they take them out. And I have to know what they're doing and why. That doesn't mean I can repeat it all later here on this board. I hear what the ortho tells the assistant to do, in that ortho shorthand language, and I try to decipher it.

I never ask any questions! I try to read up as much as possible so I can kind of follow what my ortho is doing but I have zero idea where we are in my treatment and what is coming next. At my last adjustment my ortho got really excited that she had just put a steel wire on my bottom arch and would be putting one on my top arch in 6 weeks...I had no idea what the difference was!

Took tons of progress pics in the first few months but I haven't in ages. Will be brill to see the before and after pics though!

I have taken photos... its the best way to see progress, by comparing photos between appointments. I also ask a lot of questions and query things I don't understand.

Actually some of the questions on here really surprise me, like "my ortho has done such and such, what do you think he is planning to do?". Why on earth don't you ask him?

I've got before pictures that my ortho took and I wouldn't post to this forum because I really didn't realize how bad my teeth were along with being  . I always try to ask at each adjustment why this/that being done.

Not taking pictures regularly. Should do that. I do like to know what's happening. Have learned so many terms from the forum here. Told my ortho about it(archwired). He said not to get too involved in getting so much information. I'll get confused and confuse him as well. :? :(

I hardly ever ask questions either. They don't really explain much to me as well. Maybe they're just used to kids that don't ask anything and don't really care? :s
Like I got a power chain and only found out about it when I looked in the mirror at home.. I had no idea what it was!

Last adjustment I finally asked something and then he gave me a full explanation, sort of. So that's nice, but really, I'm not one to ask anything.

I know I am not really going to be happy with "progress", just when I finally have straight, white, even teeth. Like my ortho says my teeth look better, and we're just expanding, and personally I don't think wider smiles look any better than narrow...for me it's not a value. So I just see yellowish rounded teeth that protrude. I DO take pics after each adjustment or new appliance of the inside of my mouth, because I think the devices themselves are kind of interesting and after each adjustment they are changed forever. But in general I'd say that I'm not a process person, I'm a results person.

Glad to hear that there are others like me. My ortho & his team are awesome & I'm sure if I piped up & asked questions they would answer them.

I never thought about how much time they spend with kids, I'm sure not too many of them ask about whats going on.

Almost at my 7 month mark!
