Did you date after braces?

#1 Post by chimi »

Out of curiosity,

Did you date after braces? Or did you find it more difficult?

I'm sure there are a lot of people on this board who will tell you that having braces had no effect on their dating lives.

I hate to be a dark cloud, but it wasn't that way for me. I never had a date during the two years I wore my braces. Maybe it's because my appliances stood out more than some other people's, and/or maybe people are just more shallow in Southern California, but that was my experience.

But don't let what happened to me deter you...try the dating pool for yourself!

I did. I was dating a girl before I got braces, then continued to date her after that. When we broke up, I dated some after that. And that was with me being self-conscious about the braces.

I've never had an issue with my braces and dating :) I think the biggest problem that people encounter is feeling self conscious about the braces, which I do at times.. But ultimately I'm grateful to have braces and they haven't stopped me :)

Didn't date as such but got engaged to my long-time boyfriend while wearing braces. Now I can look forward to a big wedding-pic grin! My sister was single during braces and it never stopped her dating lots....people don't notice or care as much as you think....unless it affects your confidence so  !

Not only did I date some, (never was a huge dating fan anyway) but I got engaged and married in braces. Have all the photos with a blue power-chain to prove it too! I don't understand the big deal, heck maybe it's a good thing... if someone is going to be so shallow or vain as to not give you a shot if you have braces etc., do you really want to risk folks like that anyway?!

I wish I was as confident as you all seem to be. I am definitely avoiding the whole dating scene until my braces are OFF! Part of the reason I am trying to get them off as quickly as possible...it sounds terrible I know but the braces tend to make me very self-conscious.

Nope. It's been almost 7 months now. I am less confident and more shy and don't really socialize as I used to. I can easily see myself not dating for another 13 months. Sadly.

Good for you all that have no issues though :)

For what it's worth, I think men look hot in braces. I think it's a combination of them doing something positive for themselves AND having the confidence to not care what people think. For that reason I think metal are more attractive. I'm quite excited for my fiancé to get his on. And he's very supportive of me getting mine, he's dated girls with braces before, and though he stops short of calling them cute, as I do, he said it was no big deal. I know dating is different from being in a committed relationship, but if I was dating I would have absolutely no problem if the other person had braces. I would be more attracted to them if they wore them confidently!
