So tired of SOUP!

#1 Post by Danaeliz »

What are some other ideas to eat. I just got my braces on Monday, November 26, 2012 and I have lost 7 lbs in the last week! I can't bite down into anything! I even tried a slice of bread yesterday. I couldn't chew it. So....was just wondering if anyne had any ideas of different foods they have tried that doesn't hurt.

I've had the same problem - I've never been a soup kinda girl to start with. I had my braces fitted just over a week ago, and wisdom teeth taken out the same day, so I've been really sore and tender in the mouth. These are the sort of things I've been eating (other than soup!)....
- scrambled eggs
- baked beans
- bread soaked in soup softens it up a bit (no crusts though!)
- smoothies (I'm really missing fruit - this is the best way to get them in)
- softened noodles in broth (ramen style)
- cottage pie
- ice-cream!

Still working on how to eat more vegetables...other than bl**dy tomato soup.

I'm enjoying the flab loss, can't believe how quickly I've slimmed up in just a week, though I'm sure it'll all be piling back on once I get used to biting down again.

Good luck!

If you like fish, fisherman's pie is soft and almost no chewing. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish ... s/fish-pie

If you chop vegetables very small pieces (or use a food processor) you can add all sorts of vegetables to cottage pie: peas, broccoli, carrots, onions etc.

Stewed apples/rhubarb with custard or ice cream.

Humous

Oatmeal, with cinnamon and brown sugar.

Rice pudding

I had this problem too. I was braced on the 22nd and am finally managing some softened toast and a little bit of chicken (but I can't eat much of it because my teeth hurt more as I go along in the meal). I too hate soup (unless it's tomato but I got clear braces and even though my ortho said it was okay I was terrified of staining them).

I ate puree'd pumpkin mixed with polenta (add parmesan, sage and milk).
Sweet potato.
Custard and jelly.
Smoothies with protein powder.
Yoghurt.
Mashed potato (dress it up a bit with some chives, sour cream and/or garlic)
Tinned spaghetti (absolute garbage nutritionally but sometimes we need some comfort food!)
Frozen yoghurt.
Eggs and omelettes worked well
Fish was good as someone else mentioned.
Fish/salmon cakes are nice and soft (especially if you make them yourself).

I'm really missing veggies though. I've tried a few greens but aside from the fact that they hurt to chew I have horrendous green spinach teeth when I'm done!

:-* I had an iced coffee the other day (it was a thousand degrees here in Aus) with all the trimmings (ice cream and chocolate sprinkle stuff on top) and thought the same thing about me!

I'm the same! I've got molar bulid ups so even if my teeth weren't sore I still couldn't chew if I wanted too! I'm finding it really tough as I can't physically eat enough and my sport is suffering. I'm trying to get enough food in but it's painful and takes ages to clean afterwards. Fingers crossed it will all ease soon and the molar build ups will wear down!

This forum is the best for keeping you positive though! :-)

Have I mentioned how thoroughly sick I am of pasta? No, didn't think so.
I've been eating lots of scrambled eggs, pasta, soup, pasta. I also have molar buildups and so have pretty much been on a soft diet since I got my braces on. I've pretty much had it.
I have really almost completely stopped enjoying eating. And eating out in a restaurant? No, because as soon as I'm finished eating I have to practically run to the bathroom to brush my teeth because I can't stand the feeling of all the food in my brackets. I simply refuse to brush my teeth in a public washroom. So, I've been sticking very close to home since I my braces were put on. Not much fun.
