Have any adults on here been treated with an advance sync? I have never heard of that one before but i just recieved an email from an orthodontist saying to book a consultation so we can discuss functional appliances and braces. She said it works in adults but she she hasnt used on an adult yet.would it work correctly,my overjet is severe and my chin is too far back,i was recommended for jaw surgery.most orthodontist i have contacted so far wont even discuss using a functional appliance on an adult because they say they dont work.
Sorry for waffling on im confused, how come most say they dont work but others do?

Re: advance sync?
I've run into some different opinions on functional appliances for adults, receiving three totally different opinions. (see my response to the topic "twin block for an adult"). I'll be getting a Liberty Bielle appliance, which like the AdvanSync is herbst-like. I'm glad to have found an orthodontist who is willing and able to use a functional appliance to treat my overbie/overjet. It's crazy how they all have such different philosophies! Getting several opinions is definitely crucial in my opinion, especially when one or more are for surgery.

Re: advance sync?
Mel2012 I have seen some of your other posts and it seems like we have a similar problem and like you I do not want to go down the surgery route. My Orthodnotist hasnt mentioned using any appliances, only straightening out the teeth to improve them a bit but not reducing the overjet at all. Since seeing your posts I have emailed him about applicanes but havent had a response as yet. Did you find an orthodontist in your area willing to use a functional appliance? I looked into the Advansync and it looked amazing.

Re: advance sync?
I'm still waiting for a reply to the email i sent my orthodontist explaining what i'd found on the internet but i'm not holding out much hope! It seems so silly that what is used commonly in the USA isnt available here. Are you going to have any treatment at all now?

Re: advance sync?
So i've heard back from my orthodntist who has basically said there is no scope to reduce my overjet at all!! They completely ignored my reference to appliances and said elastics wouldnt help either. Feeling really down in the dumps about the whole thing now. I dont want the surgery for all sorts of reasons but equally i'm not sure if theres much point in having straight teeth if i've got a massive overbite! Nothing of any help to you mel2012!!
