Braces at 44 (about 30 late)

#1 Post by sfgardengnome »

Hi, new to the forum and need be around others who are going through the same journey. On January 2nd
I had ceramic braces placed on my upper and lower teeth. My only complaint is the sore spots in my mouth from
the braces (2 spots). I've been using the wax religiously, along with Advil. Does anyone out there have any other
suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it :)

Hi! Welcome to the board :) I'm 34 and have had mine on for 5 weeks. The sore spots will heal (swishing with salt water helps them to heal up faster) but I find I get random one's from time to time still. I look forward to following your journey :)

Hi and welcome. I'm 43. Just keep going with the wax, for most people it gets easier. I still use it occasionally at 10 months in. Some people find your cheeks toughen up quicker if you don't use wax too much - maybe leave it off at night?
1st Feb 2012 - extraction both upper 2nd premolars
Braced 9th March 2012 - lower metal fixed and upper removable plate
5th September 2012 - bite plate gone, upper ceramic fixed fitted
Estimated treatment time 18-24 months

Hi congrats.........

44 is a good age for you appreciate how important a good bite is.

I'm in my late 60's and it got to the point of braces or damaged teeth and dental work.
At 3 months, I don't even know the braces are there, except for the cleaning.

You will be just fine........ it takes a lot of motivation for an adult to do this

Hi there,
Just came across your posting and thought I'd put my two cents in, too. I'm 54 and just got full metal upper and lower braces at the end of October. It's been quite an adjustment but I'm getting there. I concur with Tobelei's suggestion about salt water rinses. Works wonders and will really help with the soreness. Good luck on your journey. I'll be following along as you go!
