Nervous about two spacers tomorrow - still not wired

#1 Post by Maji »

Hello everybody,

Hope you are all well and smiling. I'm still waiting to get wired. Lost my first bracket because it apparently needs to have a metal anchor. Am getting two spacers around that lower rear molar tomorrow to make room. It's strange having un-wired brackets, like being in limbo. Hoping spacers will not be too painful. Will update. :-)

I'm getting my spacers tomorrow too! I don't have brackets on yet, but I remember getting brackets before wires the first time I was braced. It did feel like a weird limbo. I'm getting Damon braces this time and I'm not sure if wires go on immediately with those. I hope so.

From what I remember about spacers, they were more painful than braces adjustments. Luckily the pain only lasted a few days. Take some Ibuprofen before the appointment and stick to soup and soft foods and you should be good.

You'll get there! Spacers for me personally weren't painful at all, it was just annoying to have something stuck in my teeth. After a day or two it become a little sore to chew, but that was nothing big.

Good luck tomorrow!
Braced Date: December 26th, 2012.
Type: Traditional Metal Braces.
Estimated Treatment Time: 18-24 months (more likely 18).

I found spacers to be easily tolerable by not chewing on anything at all where the spacers are.
Soft food for a couple of days is better than pain anyday!

I just got back from my ortho appointment to get spacers. Easy breezy!

I did take an Aleve (naproxen sodium) about half hour before my appointment. There was only a little pain getting one put in that was way back. She ended up having to floss it into place then pull the floss out and that was very uncomfortable.

Right now I'm sipping away on french onion soup with soggy croutons :) Don't bee too afraid.

My spacers are in! I have 8 in total. So far all I feel is a bit of pressure. No pain at all. I did take a couple Ibuprofen which I think are helping, but it's really nothing like I remember it being the first time.

Any updates, Maji? I hope your experience is smooth as well! :D

Hello everyone,

Thank you Mary, Klobird, Beauty Monster, Mrs Charisma for your kind replies! To Sportsman 31 and anyone getting spacers soon, hope your experience is as easy as mine. I was, no kidding, in and out of the office in less than ten minutes! Of course, this was for only two spacers. Hope you OK with eight, Mary. It has been 16-1/2 hours now, and no pain, pressure or discomfort! I may be living in a fool's paradise, and the pain is coming. Hope not. Ultimately, it just means getting closer to getting wired and really starting the journey! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Well, I woke up this morning with sore teeth. Nothing unbearable though. Just somewhat irritating. Glad these things will be out soon!

It doesn't hurt, per se, but it's an odd feeling. I didn't sleep terribly well last night either.

Ok made my second trip to the ortho today to replace the broken spacer and they replaced it with a metal one. The metal one prevents me from biting together. I didn't think that the rubber spacers were going to be bad, but the metal one is goin to cause 10 days of hell..... Come on January 29th!!!!!
