I visited Eric today but it was not for an adjustment, I was transferring some records from our clinic to his and I thought it would be a give-Eric-these-papers-and-then-run-for-the-bus-visit but as always we ended up talking for 30 mins

He started to talk about his new brackets and I found it so interesting that I forgot the time. I then showed him how my front tooth is not moving as it should and we talked about it for a while. If I wanted I could have changed the arch wire to a ticker one myself a few days ago but have not done it yet. I was supposed to have my next appointment in January but Eric asked if we should take one more appointment before Christmas to check on my front tooth and to use Eric’s words: To tighten them so hard that you can’t eat your Christmas dinner  (he actually does not do any bondings two weeks before Christmas both because he will not have his office open between Christmas and New Year if things should happen and because he wants his pts to enjoy Christmas).

On my appointment in January we will take an impression for my retainer (if I’m 100% sure that I don’t want to move to the second phase of the treatment) and then a debonding on my upper jaw on the appointment after that! Wow!

I love my teeth now, they are as I want them to be

I have been very busy these last few weeks and have therefore not had much time to update you guys. And to be honest there has not been much to blog about. The anxiety is still there but better than when I started. Tomorrow it one week left and I have had my uppers for year.

Have a dental appointment on Monday and my lower arch wire needs to be removed. I will do this myself but I won’t take it back in again, because of this anxiety I can’t managed to put an arch wire on myself (I have no problems doing adjustments on others though…).

I have very little anxiety for my general dental appointment, just give me a local anesthesia and the dentist can do whatever he wants with my teeth. No problem!

What I have anxiety for on Monday is my appointment with Eric where he will put the SAME (I hope) arch wire back again… oh, this ortho phobia makes so much sense… I hate it :(

Hey Ebony, I'm glad to hear everything is O.K. Sorry I hadn't been posting I went to college for a semester and got meningitis and decided to transfer to University. Start Monday with move in day Tuesday for class. My orthodontist when I came in for abnormal pain after an adjustment just took an x ray and wouldn't go down a size :/ So I am jealous Eric let you. I wish I could call my orthodontist by her first name. She said some little brat came in her office yelling and demanding SHARI get these things OFF me take em off take em off NOW!and ever since she said no more first name. Kids always gotta ruin the fun. I'm getting my braces off by June. So glad you didn't get the tooth taken out.

BBS: I’m a little spoiled I know  . Both my boss and Eric are doing a wonderful job, I’m the one who decides what and when something is being done. Like in two weeks I have an appointment and can decide if I want to start with elastics (to reduce my overjet) or not. If I don’t mind the overjet then it’s all ok, we will try to fix something else I want to fix. No rush at all. We also are trying to make this as pain free as possible (because of my phobia of course) and it was because of this that both boss and Eric (without speaking to each other) recommended to change arch wire.

But remember that I’m a special case, Eric does not use this much time normally on a pt. Normally they are just in and out (but he always listen to them and try not to cause them more pain than “needed”) .

First name: I think it’s the cultural different. We don’t call people doctors and so on, we call everyone by their first name (normally). If I met our prime minister on the street I would just say “Hello Jens” (his name is Jens Stoltenberg). When I’m at work and need to call another ortho or dentist I never ask if Dr. “last name” is in his or hers office but just “Is Karl there” (just to take an example). It might sound very strange but it’s normal here. I like it very much because it makes us all equal, no one is better than the other one. A cleaning lady is as good as a doctor :D

That's is fantastic to hear. :) I kinda wish i could decide, but nope mouth shut it is for me, although I can ask questions ;) But honestly if it were up to me I'd have my braces on for another year, she's saying I'm getting them off a year early :O I'm scared its too soon. Nice, you can always start the smallest, thinnest elastics possible that way there you get somewhat used to it and per your discretion you can stop wearing them if they start to hurt then try them again. My overbite/jet is the WORSE thing I HATE mine. Though I agree it is a lot better. I don't mind it on other people it makes them distinguished just makes me look ugly though :'( Nice, I feel like my orthodontist snickers in the back with her girls saying mwuah ha ha let's torture Jenn to see how much she can take before calling us again crying. LOL

That's awesome though, my ortho gave me her personal number so I guess that accounts for something :)

I think so too. But I know some people who were cool enough to let you call them by first name and such. Like the seniors and juniors in choir called Dr. Last Name Prof. My friend who works at the school I transferred to lets me call him Tim whereas like in class or something he gets called Dr. Last Name. Like when you see them not in their element you can call them first name basis. I wish it was like that here but everyone lays thinks they're better than everyone else and I find it SICKENING. Like rich politicians wont "waste their time" thinking out a factory worker let long talk to them. I'd talk to everyone. My orthodontist talks to everyone which is kinda shocking since she's LOADED filthy rich. She was born into money even before she became orthodontist. And she still talked to me LOL I'm as poor as you can get.

Had my appointment on Monday! Got a new wire and he asked if I wanted to start with elastics next time. Giving this new wire some time to work and me time to think. Nothing special happened.

I also had my first appointment with the dental fear clinic yesterday. The treatment there is expensive but if you get the diagnosis dental phobia then it’s free. It may not come as a surprise for you guys that they gave me the diagnosis dental phobia (lol). Have an appointment with their dentist in two weeks to figure out a treatment plan, if we need Eric to come to this clinic or it can be something Eric and I can do by ourselves in his clinic.

Am I correct in noting that tomorrow is your 1 year anniversary with your braces? Look at how far you've come!!!!

Congratulations :jump: :rose: :D

Your story has shown your own strength and set an example for others.

I think it is great you have been able to start your dental phobia sessions too. You have a great support team.

BBS: Yeah, I think it’s great that your ortho does that! Not many orthos would do that. .
Don’t compare Eric with your own ortho, they are both great in their own way. I’m sure your ortho is as “cool” as Eric just in a different way. Your ortho is awesome too

TMJJill: Thanks! You guys on this forum are a big reason why I’m still in braces!  Wow, one year!! I never thought I would managed to go this far…

Klobird: Thanks!

Hi,

I've not read whole topic, but some firsts and lasts posts. I've also been suffering some kind of orto phobia. I,m having my braces this week and I'm so stressed during this weeks that been gone since last visit with orto. I'm tired and exhausted, my family and friends wants to cheer me up and comfort but honestly I've been talking to them over and over about the same and still thats gives me nothing. I'm so anxious.

I want to ask, did you have some extractions or manage without?
I'm debraced after 2 rears and 1 weak of treatment.

Jem: Thanks! Yes, it really shows what can be done. I can’t believe it myself!
Thank you all for the support!

Mylovedteeth: First you need to feel proud for doing this. It’s not easy, I know. It may not feel like it but you are very brave.
What I can recommend is that you write down what you fear and why, and bring it with you to your next appointment. Tell your ortho this so he or she can try to work with you to managed these fears. A good teamwork with your ortho will make it a lot easier for you. It was what saved me :D

Yes, I had two extractions and they went well. No problems with them. Do you need exactions?

Good luck with getting your braces! Please let me know how it went!
