1st day with braces

1st day with braces
Well as of 11am this morning, I am the proud owner of shiny stainless steel braces on both top and bottom as well as a lower holding arch. The first couple hours weren't too bad but wow am I feeling pressure now!! The orthos assistant told me to expect the worse pain on day 3. :( I have jury duty the next 2 days so hopefully that will give me time to adjust before I teach all day. I'm still glad I'm doing this but I'll be happy when the pain subsides...although the lavender ligs make me feel a little better!
I'll post pics soon!

Re: 1st day with braces
Hey, I just got mine on today too! Feeling sore, but it sounds like your pain is worse. I just don't feel like chewing on anything right now...
How long are you expecting to wear your braces?

Welcome to the forum (and to braces!) The pressure isn't pleasant. Hopefully the pain won't hang around too long for you! Soft foods and pain killers help!

Welcome to the forum. I always think "p" is for "pressure" but also "progress". Hope the pain (another p) won't be too bad for you.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice everyone! I really appreciate it!
Day 2 - I had jury duty today which saved me from talking all day which was nice. The pressure has subsided a bit, ibuprofen definitely helps! Of course now I'm dealing with the normal torn up cheeks and pain when I eat. I just keep reminding myself that it will get better.
Ciara - I keep telling myself pain/pressure = progress! Thanks!
Onanan - I agree that chewing is not fun! And the ortho is expecting around 24 months. What about you?

Re: 1st day with braces
Good luck as you begin this journey! I teach third grade and my students are quite intrigued by their teacher wearing braces. Warning: saliva does tend to fly when you are wearing braces and the kids WILL tell you! LOL!

Oh yes! I have to say, the flying spit is rather embarrassing!
Re: 1st day with braces
I too have had my top set wired today, although no bands on back molars, so no pressure, yet. That's monday.
Re: 1st day with braces
Hi Rusty'sMom and Tobilei- it's funny you both mentioned that because I seem to go back and forth between a dry mouth and wayyy too much saliva! I've been on jury duty for the last few days so tomorrow will be my first full day of teaching. It should be interesting but I'm bringing lots of wax and lots of water.
Hi Lewdboy! Are you still pressure free? My pressure lessened now I'm dealing with sore cheeks and pain when I chew. I miss solid food! Lol. Hopefully, your pain doesn't last long once it comes!

Re: 1st day with braces
So far, I've only had a dry mouth. The first 2 days with braces my mouth was soooooo dry. No matter how much I drank it didn't seem to make a difference. It's much better now....
Re: 1st day with braces
I got mine on and was very drooly for about 6 hours, then all of a sudden my mouth was like the desert and I drank crazy amounts of water for about a week and a half. It does settle down though! I find they get dry feeling when I eat certain foods or I talk too much but otherwise much more normal now.
