Surgery without Braces

Can anyone recommend a surgeon who has preformed double jaw surgery without the use of braces? I am having trouble locating one willing to do this.

Braces are usually needed for surgery. One reason is to allow the teeth to be banded shut after surgery to allow the jaw bones to heal in the correct position and prevent movement. So, you should probably consider just getting the braces on before surgery if you want to achieve good results.

The problem is that I have root resorption so I cannot have braces again. But I do need surgery. But looks like you cannot have surgery without braces.

Where are you located? The first surgeon I consulted with (but did not end up going with) gave me the option to have the surgery without braces. He said it would not be perfect, but it would be fine in terms of appearance. He is a maxillofacial and a plastic surgeon in Indianapolis, Indiana. Let me know if you want his name.

I have root resorption (from orthodontics as a teenager) on my four front upper teeth very badly and slightly on the rest of my teeth.
My root:crown ratio is 0.5:1 on these front teeth (typically it is 2:1 or larger).

I am 16 months into orthodontics for double jaw surgery and genioplasty. My orthodontist agreed to do the work by moving my teeth slowly (I have appointments every 10 weeks or more!) and by not putting brackets on the four damaged teeth.

At some point - to quote my ortho - we will have to get brave and brace the damaged teeth (in the very last month or two, maybe even after the surgery). If I loose them I will have titanium implants to replace them.

My point being: if only a couple of your teeth are root damaged you may find an ortho who is willing to work around it.
