How often are your visits?

Re: How often are your visits?
I've got In-Ovation self ligating brackets, so no need to change ligatures. I think they said my adjustments are going to be every 8 weeks or so. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on what's going on.
Everyone in the office says my ortho is a 'perfectionist', but he doesn't need to see patients that often since the archwires are still doing their job. I've read that some orthos schedule appointments more often even if they don't really need to adjust anything, just to make the patient feel like they're getting the right amount of attention. Of course, if you need ligatures changed, I think I read that having them changed often increases their effectiveness.
Of course, if something goes wrong I can schedule extra appointments, and my doc does not charge extra for this. Is that pretty normal? I feel like my ortho is 'throwing in' a lot of extra stuff. Like, he said he would 'throw in' some gum sculpting or veneers if I need it down the line at no extra charge... but then again my braces are costing me a lot more than the average price I've seen listed here.
I'll have some additional appointments thrown in there too, as I'm having surgery (twice!) and the ortho will need to make sure everything is lining up properly during that process.

Re: How often are your visits?
I seem to be waiting longer than everyone. Should I bring it up with my ortho? I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom. I wait 8 weeks between appointments. I always have to go and get wires cut and stuff between appts. And the last appt we had to reschedule earlier b/c my elastic band wouldn't stay on. Ended up getting rid of it b/c it had done its job. I feel like my teeth move quicker than to go every 8 weeks.

This thread at Braces Review might ease your mind: http://www.bracesreview.com/forums/trad ... tened.html - There are a couple of orthodontic professionals who responded and made it seem like longer times between appointments were completely normal.
It seems like waiting that long between adjustments is pretty normal nowaday, and I'm actually surprised so many folks here are going in so much more often. But I guess every ortho has a different way of doing things. Anyway, I wouldn't be concerned unless you think that the only reason you're getting more time between appointments is becuase your ortho is over booked. Otherwise, I'm sure he/she knows that they are doing.

Re: How often are your visits?
Those little rubber bands lose their slack quick in my opinion. I personally would never wait 8 weeks for an adjustment. In the end though, its up to what the guy doing them says. I would bring it up to him. Just say " Everyone I know who has or had braces had their adjustments every 4 weeks. I'm curious, how come mine are 8 weeks "
If he gives you a good answer, then all is well. Just gotta trust the guy who is doing them. Also, if you are seeing movement with the 8 week intervals, then all should be well.

Re: How often are your visits?
I just had my first return appointment and it was 5 weeks (would have been six but there were scheduling issues). He didn't change my top wire and my bottoms got placed. My next appt is in 6 weeks and they'll do my first wire change... so that's 11 weeks on this wire!
Ortho says 6 weeks apart at first, then will be every 4 weeks later on

30 years old, In-Ovation C, estimated 16-18 months
Re: How often are your visits?
I started with two apointments 10 weeks apart and now I have been going every 4 weeks (the last 3 or 4 times) to replace power chains. I don't always see the doc though, it is a power chain replacement only, I see the dental assistant.
Total sentence 567 days.

My orthodontist claims I will be going in every 6-8 weeks, depending. I am set to get In-Ovation C upper and lower next week.

Re: How often are your visits?
I though 6 - 10 weeks was standard for self-ligating braces but because ligs lose their strength and get stained, they need changing more often so regular braces need more frequent appointments, however not all of these will involve wire changes.
16 months 1 week and 2 days in braces
12mm overjet and narrow jaws all fixed with braces and elastics.

Well my hopes got dashed with this last adjustment 1/28/13. I got fitted with size 18 round arch wires upper/lower and went back to 6 week adjustment time

Re: How often are your visits?
I just got metal braces on both upper and lower teeth 5 days ago, and my orthodontist told me to come back in 8 weeks. I thought that seemed like a long interval between visits, but I guess maybe he expects that length of time is needed for the amount of progress to be acheived?
Most of the posts I have seen have leaned toward an average of 4 weeks between visits.
