It feels like someone punched me in the front teeth!

#1 Post by slippery »

Hello everyone,

Thought I should come here to say hi. I got my braces on yesterday and for the whole day yesterday I felt totally fine. A little unaccustomed to the hardware in my mouth, but I was getting used to it. When I woke up this morning though and I felt like someone punched me in the front teeth. I just keep thinking to myself now, "you chose this, it was your choice to get braces so suck it up". Anyway, here's hoping I get used to it soon and the pain in the front teeth go away!

Ugh I think most of us know that feeling! Trying to bite into ANYTHING is impossible. It should only last a couple of days (then it moves on to other teeth and they feel like they've been punched if you're really lucky like I seem to be). Hang in there, the initial week or 2 of having them on is the worst of it.

Omg, same! I got mine yesterday, and was like, "This isn't so bad!" Woke up this morning, and the molars with the bite blocks were so sore, teeth feel so tight, inside mouth so raw! I know this must get better...ha!

Feeling the same way today. 1 st adjustment (ahead of schedule because a bracket fell off and I asked to have it done early). It hurts to chew anything, and the side of my mouth is raw. Soup is on the menu for awhile. Glad to know others are with me.

I feel your pain! I had an ulcer for about 5 days that refused to go away after my last adjustment (had a big rant about it on here too :P). Feel better soon!

Takes 5-7 hours to feel the pain after adjustment. Max 48 hrs and you will get used to it.

I got my braces on Jan 24 in the morning. That night my teeth were feeling achy and the pain got worse over the next few days. I couldn't bite anything at all because it was excruciating. I was slobbering on all my food like a baby and waiting for it to dissolve or just swallow it. It went away after several days. It will hurt like that after the adjustments too. I just had my first one on Tuesday. Something for you to look forward to :-/

i just got my braces about a week ago now and i STILL cannot bite on my front teeth. I have been eating everything with my molars and on my left hand side cos the molar on my right side is sore lol. I tried to bite into soft bread and I couldn't even make an indent in the bread and my teeth felt really wobbly! I thought I moved one! lol. I really hope I can bite into something soon cos it is getting annoying ripping my food up in tiny bits and popping it right at the back of my mouth lol.

Yup. First week of braces, and first week of elastics are the absolute worst parts of the treatment. After that it gets better and you just stop noticing the hardware anymore

Commiserate with you all - yep Day 6 and I am still on soft foods and no chewing :/ I think I am developing a food obsession as I look at EVERYTHING in shops and cafes and supermarkets and think YUM!!!

Yep!
I'm on my third wire since getting braces in January. This one is very agressive to say the least. For two days after getting the new one installed I had problems finding a place to put my lower jaw, the wire had yanked my uppers far forward. (I have an overbite getting moved up and forward) But there is so much progress for only three and a half months. Worth the discomfort!

After every "rewiring" you'll experience some degree of discomfort and then everything will subside into a tolerable "background noise."

You'll be just fine!
