24 hours in braces

#1 Post by tiggypippin »

Not too bad at all... bit of rubbing and teeth tight and a bit sore (especially when you hit a coffee cup on them !!!)

Went back to work after having them put on, everyone had a good old look and asked questions.

Managed to have some soup and a couple of painkillers before heading home. one bracket in particular is rubbing and the hook was catching on the inside of my mouth when talking.... WAX is my new best friend, along with a cheeky wee glass of wine.

Had sheperds pie for dinner was amazed by all the little bits stuck in the brackets afterwards ..... I nearly popped a malteser in my mouth I thought if i could just let it melt :D but the thought of the mess it would make of my braces put that idea right out of my head!

I need to set the alarm 15 minutes earlier than normal for all the extra tooth brushing and trying to floss

Its now 1 day since they have been in my mouth.. only 547 to go !!

Lol you'll get quicker at flossing (but not back to normal sadly, I miss flossing without braces!).

And you'll eventually cave and eat chocolate and it will be good! I promise

Glad they're on!!

Hello, people! Do you recommend to floss during the first days? I just feel so much pain in my teeth at the moment (its my 5th day) that I am a bit afraid of that, does it hurt?

Thank you and I hope everything keeps going fine for you!

Duendecilla - I read a post somewhere that recommended getting a Waterpik to help with getting to those areas that are HARD to get to (which is ALL areas to me because trying to floss this morning was a disaster!). I'm 24hours in to 6 Month Smiles braces and feel like a monster is living in my mouth! :( I'm picking up my Waterpik TODAY!

Oh, congratulations, Culebra78 (spanish nickname? :P)!! The first days will be hard but it will get better! I am in my 6th day and feeling so much better! :) Can we have pictures of your teeth? :)

I am not flossing so far, maybe next week. My teeth are still too sensitive.

Yes - Spanish nickname - I'm really Anita... Culebra is a TINY little island off of Puerto Rico that I LOVE! Otherwise I wouldn't normally pick "snake" for a nickname! Duendecilla - a Spanish nickname as well - send some magic MY way!

I'm going to get a copy of my pictures from the dentist this week for before picture - - - and have too much wax in my mouth today to take a picture with braces on .... but will do tonight when I de-wax for brushing.

Very happy that this forum exists..... will definitely stay tuned for all updates!

Anita

I'm so glad this forum exists! I am getting my braces on tomorrow and while doing some pre braces research on the best way to floss I found this site. So glad to see so many similar stories to mine!

Good to hear you survived the first 24 hours and they were not terrible! Gives me some relief for tomorrow! Thank you!

Congrats Kel! Hope things go well for you! Let us all know how it goes..... I feel MUCH better today than I did yesterday.... most of the pressure has gone WAY down... Make sure you take LOTS of wax from the doctor's office - you'll need it! " )

Thanks culebra! Right after getting them on was not so bad but oh man, last night and today were rough! As someone stated, wax has become my most favorite thing! My bottom lip is very torn up :(

I'm surprised at how much my teeth hurt! There's a constant pressure that I don't notice too much until I try to eat...oh man what a nightmare! Please, someone tell me it gets better and I'll be able to eat real food and actually bite/chew something again!

I can totally relate now to the person who said they feel like, they have a monster living in their mouth. I was disgusted yet amazed at how much food gets stuck in the braces, yuck! Lots of rinsing, brushing and attempted flossing. Some of my teeth or so tight and close together now I can't even get floss through them. And the sonicare air flosser doesn't seem to be doing much. Might have to test out the waterpik too.

I heard chewing gum would help the teeth become less sensitive??? Did that work for anyone? Or does it eventually just go away?

:( It's horrible but it does get better! I promise! You'll be chewing again soon! You never *quite* chew the way you used to but you do can get through steak and chicken breast etc (even chips sometimes!) They hurt all over again at adjustments for a day or 3 but it will pass!

I'm no good with chewing gum. For me it just makes them hurt more and for longer :(
