Hi, I will be getting braced next week. I'm thinking Pink!

I'm not even sure if they have colored bands (a dental school) but I was thinking pink. If they don't is it possible to order my own, or do I tell them in advance for the next time? Will the light pink match with everything makeup wise?? Hmmm...

Btw, let me introduce myself. I'm Kay from NYC. I have always wanted braces but my parents never paid me any mind. Now, I'm an adult (in my twenties) and am ready to do be on the straight teeth path. So I really am not sure what to expect. Last time at my appointment they were going to put on the brackets and wires but because I had impending work to be done ( I ended up restoring a filling and getting a new one) they didn't want to put it on. So now, I believe I will be getting them on, or at least spacers since I remember them telling me that the teeth in the back are big and have no space. I remember someone mentioning filing the back ones down, not sure at what stage that is going to happen.

First thing though, the recent restoration Wednesday of the old filing has some pain when chewing on tougher things like bread/nuts. I'm hoping it will be fine by Wednesday when I go to ortho. Luckily though, I do have an appointment on Tuesday with my general which I luckily didn't cancel, just in case anything needs to be done to the new filling. As I googled I saw that it's possible to do a filling on a tooth with braces. Either way, my upper row of teeth are fine so if I don't get both top and bottom I will have top. I just want everything to be done together instead of returning so often. Anywho, wish me luck, and if anyone can point me to anyone on here with pink bands I will be very appreciative. Thanks.

I think Faith Hill has clear brackets with super light pink ligatures. But, I could be wrong about that. Look at the pics in this thread: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... 13&t=43906

Anyway, I think pink is a great choice. And if you end up not liking pink, you can try a new color at your next adjustment.

Congratulations and welcome to the board. I've seen many people with light pink (baby pink) and it does look very pretty. I'm sure a dental school will have colours.

Ligatures (ligs) are the tiny rubber bands that go on each bracket to hold the archwire in place. The rubber bands that some people get that hook the top jaw to the bottom jaw are usually just called rubber bands, or elastics.

This link has a diagram with the different parts of braces if you're interested. (My ortho gave me a similar one so if something goes wrong/breaks at home, I can call and accurately describe what the problem is.) Scroll down to almost the bottom of the page to see the diagram.

I've had braces on for nearly two years...I have alllllllwaysss had Light Pink (baby pink)

They put a darker pink on once by accident and i hated it haha.

I think baby pink looks more natural around the teeth/gum area and makes it less noticable.
A friend of mine who I met through this forum about two years ago saw my baby pink ligs and ended up getting the same.

The only time i will have a change will be once i'm told they are coming off...I might celebrate and whack some purple and pink in there

I just got my upper braces on last Monday and I also chose pink as my first color. They had two shades of pink , I first chose the bright pink but the hygenist asked if I'd like them both, alternating. I said flower why not... I didn't know it at that moment, but I've ended up with Hello Kitty themed braces! I'm going back on Thursday so hopefully they'll change my ligs so I can rock bright blue I like the hot pink, but the pale pink blends right in with my teeth and you can't see it :-S

I'm getting my braces on Friday. I think I'll be a little cautious and go with light pink to start with. I'll go a little wild later on!
