lips hurting

#1 Post by miha1234 »

HI,

I am 7 days post operation of Le Forte 1. My upper jaw was moved fw for 4mm. Operation went as it should.

My swelling did get down a bit (in cheeks but not around my nose) but really big problem is my upper lip. It is swollen and it hurts/bursts (like it is on fire). As lip is swollen and braces are really doing this hurting even more:( It is just whole lip is being inflamed.

I was having today post operation meeting with doctor and he did not bother with this lip problem to much as this he said that this is will go down in few days (maybe some iodine for washing mouth did a little sensitive).

My lip also hurts when I do washing as it is full of wounds due to braces (is this normal?).

I was using a lot of vaseline for lips but I did stop because it did not help very much in this case.

Thanks for help!

Miha

I don't have anything helpful to say because I've not had surgery. I'm sorry your lip is so painful :( I hope it feels a bit better for you soon.

Maybe your lip is infected. I would go and see your doctor.

Do you have wax you can use to cover the parts of your braces that are irritating the inside of your lip? That could at least help the inside feel better.

My lips were very chapped and painful from being swollen post-op. I used Vaseline Lip Care on them almost constantly for the first three weeks and that seemed to help a lot.
Lower braces: 7/1/08
Expander installed: 7/8/08
SARPE: 7/15/08
First adjustment for lowers: 8/5/08
Expander tied: 8/11/08
Upper braces: 8/28/08
Lefort I & BSSO: 1/8/13
