Hello from new member:-)

#1 Post by busy bee »

Hello, I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I've been reading the posts for a while and have finally taken the plunge to register...

I had my braces fitted in November last year so I've been braced for nearly 3 months now. I've already seen dramatic change. I have lingual brace on the top and ceramic on the bottom and I had the extractions at the start of the treatment.

I have always disliked my teeth but I was a bit scared to do anything about it until now. When I was a child I had a premolar taken out on one side at the top which left my teeth off centre and overcrowded. I wasn't too bothered about the bottom teeth before but they were also terribly overcrowded. So I had one extraction at the top and two at the bottom (tooth number 4). Now they've started to straighten out I realise how crowded they were before and I'm so happy with the result so far!

One more thing- my orthodontist said it will take about 20 months.

Welcome! Glad to hear you are seeing such great progress. I also got braces in November but only on the top. I should get the bottom ones next week.

Hello Ciara and Katrinka!
Yes, the progress has been really exciting! The gap at the top where I had an extraction has nearly closed already. I only wish that I had got braces sooner as I'm 30 now so I spent the whole of my twenties with crowded teeth. Oh, well...

Welcome!!!
In December I had my upper brackets and wire placed. I am expecting my lowers to be placed in the next month.

Hi :) Welcome to the forum! I got mine on in November also and have seen some change at the front (sadly my extraction gap won't be closed though :(). Sounds like you've had lots of exciting progress! That's awesome

Hello all!

Tobilei: my two extraction gaps at the bottom have not closed yet. I think the orthodontist is working on straightening the front teeth before closing the gaps. Whereas at the top, my canine was ready to go back in place filling the extraction gap so it's been much quicker at the top. Still loads of work to go though!

Welcome busybee! I'm your age, and certainly wished I could have had braces in my teens!

Anyway, great to hear that you have good progress. All the best!

Hi quentin,
You're right, having braces in your teens would have been much better. Unfortunately it wasn't offered to me so here I am having braces in my thirties. I've just recently become a Mum myself and one thing I will make sure for my daughter is that her teeth are sorted out in her childhood. It's so much easier that way! Although I have to say the experience is not half as bad as I thought it would be. Plucking up the courage was the hardest bit:-)

Hi, I'm new to this board and I'm currently wearing braces for the second time. I wore expanders which only tipped my teeth horribly and I am now in a lot of pain. Help!

Hi Cranberry, welcome to the board :) Pain is normal when things are moving but if you're concerned about how much you're in maybe ask your ortho's office about it?
