April 2013 Buddies

#1 Post by houseofcash »

Hi All,

Thought I would start a post for people doing surgery in April.

I'm scheduled for my double jaw/genioplasty on April 25th. I must say, even though its a few weeks away, my nerves are getting to me. Seems its all I can think about. I can't concentrate at work. I just so excited to get this chapter in my life complete. Been preparing for this for 2 years now. It's been all surreal till now. HA-HA

Anyone else scheduled this month?

Looks like I'm the only one :-( lol

Well I have decided that I would like to document my entire journey. So I created a blog. Check it out at: www.doublejawmetalmouth.blogspot.ca

Hello!

Im scheduled for April 24th!!! lol I thought I was going to be the only one, but it might be two of us! yay... I've been dealing with severe panic attacks and anxiety, but have been speaking with jaw friends and buddies, and this has taken it down a notch.... Its a hard thing to give up control and have faith, but its really the only thing you can do!

Im also trying to stay away from jaw forums because Im scared to come across, bad news, or something that will give me even further anxiety, if that makes sense!

I'm in my second round of braces, for 17 months! But no you are not the only one! There are other jaw forums as well, maybe we can find other jaw buddies there~

:) 18 days to go.

Yahoo!!! Looks like it's the 2 of us so far. I know exactly how you feel as far as anxiety and panic attacks go. It's crazy you even say that, cause I too have suffered from them. To be honest that one of my biggest fears is I'm going to have one when my jaw is wired shut!!!

But I have managed to keep them under control for almost 8 months now. I have been panic attack free. I just came to terms with it, and stopped being afraid of them. As my doctor told me, no one have ever died from a panic attack (though it feels like you are) I think my fear of panic attacks were bringing them on. Once you stop fearing them, it can't hurt you.

Plus I've spent to much of my life living in fear, this is my time now!! We have a life changing event ahead of us. I'm so glad I have other people like yourself to go through this with each other. I'll pm you my email address so we can keep in contact while we are recovering or if you just need someone to talk to if your freaking out :)

Hey!

I am also having surgery this month. Mine is scheduled for 18th of April - so just over a week to go - arghhh!

I have wanted this for so long and have waited almost 3 years to get to this point but i am now getting really panicky about the whole thing. It is all you can think about and that probably makes the anxiety worse. Its just that fear of being totally out of control due to being banded shut. I fear most that i won't be able to breathe properly and speak etc. Get panicky just thinking about it.

I just have to keep positive and think that they wouldn't preform this surgery if it was that dangerous.

I also worry about the end result - what if i don't like the new me?? I have learnt to tolerate the way i look now although i hate having my photo taken and have little confidence around the way i look. But what if i look worse after??

Good luck on your journeys

I will be having double jaw and genioplasty. My lower jaw is being moved forward 14mm, upper is being moved up and tilted and chin slid forward! I will be having a splint and banded shut post op. I will also be getting drains in each cheek to try and help the swelling.

I am really looking forward to it all being over now - just can't wait to finally have a chin!!

What are your movements going to be?

Wow,

Our cases sound pretty much the exact same. My lower will be brought forward 11mm and top jaw slightly forward to add some depth from my nose to my top jaw. Plus I'll be having genioplasty to roll my chin down slightly. I made a video vlog on my blog below showing my current profile. Check it out if you like :)

I'm so ready for this. Just to be able to feel my bottom teeth on my top is gonna be amazing!! My last day of work will be the day your going in, I booked off a few days before hand just to get all my affairs in order.

I'm fortunate enough, my doctor wrote me off of work for 8 weeks!! That was I can collect temporary employment insurance. Plus with my mouth being wired shut, I would not be able to do my day to day job.

I'm super excited for you!!! I hope you achieve the results your looking for. Please keep us updated. I will do the same :)

It sounds like ALL of our cases are somewhat similar lol.... Do either of you have blogs?? I am blogging about my jaw experience so it would be great to connect there!...

I dont have my final jaw measurements but Im having upper jaw impacted 4mm, lower jaw 14mm and maybe genio.... lol

All of us have gummy smiles, overbites I take it?

December 2012 surgery here! Wanted to show my support for you April surgery people.

Before the surgery, I worried a lot too. Had nightmares and trouble sleeping at times. Your fears are much worse than the surgery and recovery. I gurantee it!

Hang in there. Try to keep calm and collected. It will come sooner than you think and you'll be so happy you did it. Believe it or not, the 6 weeks of recovery will fly by!

Best of luck all!
Becky

Good luck Meeks with your upcoming surgery. I hope everything goes as expected for you! I can imagine how you must be feeling right now. I'm 8 days away and holy anxiety!!! I've stopped ready people stories, due to the fact it's freaking me out!!

All the best
Eric
