6 Month Smiles done in 4 1/2 months - PICTURES!

All other braces just shouldn't be used any more - 6MS are ridiculously good and quick. DEFINITELY worth the extra money.

Six month braces have limited application; there is a large universe of cases where they simply cannot be used. If the only adjustments necessary are along the archform, they work. If bite alignment work needs doing, or tooth angles need a bit of adjustments, six months simply isn't enough.

If you look at most (if not all) six-month progress pictures for conventional braces, you'll say to yourself, "Gee, that smile looks pretty good", but orthodontists don't leave them on for many more months because it's fun; in most of those six-month progress photos, there's still work to be done to get all the teeth tilted at the proper angle, and to ensure that the bite is integrating properly. Really, that's what takes most of the time with braces, not the initial "smile" change.

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad you are happy with your treatment... I'm just pointing out that their use (and success in your case) does not mean conventional braces can be ditched.

Jeez take it with a pinch of salt - it's obvious they're not the cure for everything I'm just being light heartedly over the top. I'm not a moron and nor is anyone else who reads this.

Congratulations, your teeth look great! How long will you have to wear your retainer during the day?

Wow! Your teeth are amazeballs. I'm only 2 weeks into my 6ms. I hope my top teeth look as good as yours

Thanks guys I'm very pleased with the amount of change in such a short time. They're straight whilst still looking natural :)

The retainer needs to stay on for as long as possible every day. It has to come out when I eat or drink anything other than water. It's surprisingly comfortable too. It might just seem like an easy transition due to them not being as intrusive as the braces were though.

your teeth do look good, but were you offered extractions before going with 6 month smiles? I only say because it looks like you might have benefitted from them to make your top arch closer to your bottom arch, seems like a bit of an overjet is still there.

Not taking anything away from a great result in a short amount of time but I think the longer treatment is worth it also.
Brace Date: 14th April 2011
Estimated Debrace Date: 14th April 2013
Real Debrace Date 18th June 2013

4 extractions, upper ceramic brackets and lower metal to fix overjet and overcrowding.

I had 4 wisdom teeth out prior to my treatment. I think extra teeth out would be unnecessary in my case as I would have been left with only 3 molars each side at the top. I know they're not perfect but I'm not looking for a Hollywood smile. I'd rather have nice natural looking teeth. I find overly polished orthodontics look a little fake and regardless of how long someone spends in braces teeth will always naturally move with age so 4 1/2 months instead of 2 years for results that are incredibly difficult to tell the difference between makes more sense to me.

I'm glad you're happy with your results - that's all that really matters in the end, no?

I would caution you to keep in mind that there are people perusing these boards who haven't taken the plunge yet, and that statements such as your initial one may scare them away from braces altogether if 6MS isn't an option for them. As an earlier poster stated, 6MS isn't going to be an option for most people.

I realize there's a difference between what you said and the people who are super anti-extraction and scaring people on here or whatever, but it's the same thought process. Just because they worked for you doesn't mean that they will work for everyone, and saying things like that has the potential to scare someone out of getting braces if they're not a candidate for such short treatment time.

I'm happily stuck in my Damon's for the next 16 months and am definitely looking forward to the "Hollywood" smile. I just dropped an obscene amount of $$ at the orthodontist, so if it takes 17 months for a perfect smile, then so be it - only 16 months left!

Please may I refer you back to my first reply of this ilk. I'm having a laugh... People on here aren't stupid so are capable enough to figure out for themselves that what I'm saying is just one persons experience. There's nothing wrong with me making a sweeping statement in a light hearted way to express my happiness.

Obviously this is a matter of each to their own. If you read my response about extractions properly you'll even see that I've used the words "in my case".

Christ on a bike, if I knew there'd be so many busy bodies on here I wouldn't have tried to have a little giggle on the Internet. All fool me for expecting others to have some common sense humour.

Look, nobody is saying that people on here are stupid. The point people are trying to make is that there are lots of people on here who don't have their braces on yet and are using this as a resource. Because of this, we all have a responsibility to watch what we post.

Again, I'm glad you're happy with your results. That's all that matters in the end.

I was being polite in my previous post, if you are genuinely happy with your result then congratulations...

However...

You possibly wouldn't have an overjet with regular braces on perhaps a 2 year treatment with extractions, I wouldn't be satisfied with your result as my end result after my 2 years and £2600 but that's just me.

When I close my mouth my top teeth are probably 2mm in front of the bottom ones, yours looks around 5-6mm (obviously i'm guessing but that's what looks like).

Are you suggesting a slightly worse result looks better because it's less fake? I don't buy that one sorry, I'm sure the majority of people on here spending a lot of money want the best finish possible.

I'm not here to put you down because your teeth look better than the average person who hasn't had braces but I wouldn't say your pics will cause the downfall of all other types of braces.

Ignore all my above comments, Im having a laugh on the internet!!!

My 'overjet' is around 1-2mm - I'm smiling slightly open mouthed so it's easier to see the results.

I get this is a resource. And I feel my opinions to be valid as much as anyone else's on here even if I do allow myself to be excited and playful in how I put my opinion across. We're all getting braces for the same reason. We all wanting to essentially change our appearance. Part of the pay off for suffering through months of ulcers, social embarrassment and a burning hole in the bank statement is that at the end you have a new look and confidence in your appearance that must have been missin before or why get braces? Expressing that positive point is part of this process I don't see much of on here. There are loads of incredibly useful tips but I don't ever really see people excited and relieved by their freedom from self conscious anxiety. I see my posts and my blog as a way to encourage people to take the step to get braces (whatever frigging braces do the job for them) and to know that there are other options out there that MAY work for them that they haven't heard of before.

Anyway good luck to you and whatever result you want to get from whichever route has been framed right for you. I'm going to enjoy the last month of having my bottom set on and look forward to my capping and coontouring.

I am happy for you, for 4 months it is a great result and if you're opening your mouth to show teeth then obviously i'm wrong.

My braces come off in 4-5 weeks time so I'm just as excited as you.
