mehogeni wrote:Great Update! I got my powerchains on the 1st adjustment for my gap and boy did it hurt putting on!!!
However, giving a slight warning from my personal experience. I remember not having any real severe pain or movement for maybe the first 2-3 weeks afterwards? Then "BAM", sometime later in the 3rd/4th week my front teeth started hurting like crazy for a few days. When the pain subsided a tad bit, I started seeing some movement and my front tooth gums were slightly swollen (not a huge amount but my tongue could feel a difference). My diastema is almost closed and I'm due for my second adjustment in 2 weeks...So don't be alarmed about a slow start and you might have to temporarily revert back to soft foods between adjustments.
It's kind of a weird adjustment though, because as the space closes I get food stuck in there + my tongue feels weird running over a space that was much wider before.
Thanks mehogeni! Yesssss! That's what happened when I got my first adjustment. I was in a super light wire when they were placed. I got the adjustment and was all, "no problem" (as I am now). And like you say, within a couple of weeks - OW!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have an issue with the frenum tissue? My ortho is worried that it may get inflamed during the process. I need to research the surgery to remove it.
Hi!
Sorry for the delay in response, busy at work at all and finding time to breathe lol. To answer your question, I'm going to have to have surgery sometime in the process to remove the tissue (frenectomy) and also for further general gum recontouring since I also have a pretty gummy smile. My gap has been closing fine but he's worried about it reopening and I HAVE quite a bit of tissue between my gap! The gum tissue between my gap actually feels funny now, almost loose, as the days go by. I can move it slightly around with my tongue a bit.Gross, but true, so maybe it'll just fall out naturally lol. It's been a painful process but nothing severely agonizing unless i dare bite down on something accidentally with my front teeth.
I've been researching the gum recontouring and frenectomy procedure and from what I've seen? nothing too bad. I'm going to go for the laser option versus the knife just because it seems like far less down time. I did hear that I'd have to be a liquid diet for awhile but havent seen too much about that so I'll ask my ortho or the person he refers me to for the procedure for more details.
Thanks for the link about frenectomy's! I am in the same boat as you, and am looking to get my surgery soon. I too had a large gap in my teeth but it's gone now - YAY! And I'll do what I have to do to keep it shut!
I don't think your smile is too gummy, by the way. I was under the impression that kind of surgery (gum reconstruction) is for people with small teeth, to make them look bigger. I think you'll have a beautiful smile when it's done
Like, days after deciding on grey ties so I didn't have to worry as much about staining, I find out that I have to take a formal portrait for my company website. Oy! I quick call to see if I can come back for pearl ties.
There is SUCH a big difference! LOL! I am going to make the sacrifice and keep pearl. I can eat "bad" foods the week or so before an adjustment!

Again - very little pain on my actual day of adjustment...last night - OUCH!!!!!!
My right central incisor has moved much more than the left (I can also see plenty of space on the right between the incisor and canine). My left side has decided to act and boy oh boy. It hurt so bad last night that I couldn't press my tongue up against my tooth. Sheesh.
Next adjustment and lower brackets will be placed on May 3rd. Moving right along!
I am "sentenced" to 24 months and have decided (quite arbitrarily) that I'd like them off before next July (which will be 17 months). Such high hopes.

Sorry to hear about your incisor but at least it is because it is moving so much! Glad to hear you are making so much progress - 17 months would be a lot better than 24. Hope you can do it! I got my bottom braces in March but still don't have brackets on my last molars.

I hear this!! I'm sentenced to 14 which will be January next year. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get them off in December (even if it's right before Christmas, but I want them off for Christmas!!!)
Ouch! My bottom teeth are sore! Like I want to pull the braces OFF! Ick. I got a new, shorter powerchain. Ow!!!!!! She said, are you ok? You're not breathing!
Last time an extra link was left between the central incisors, this time it wasn't and oh boy! I'm excited to see what the next few weeks bring. Next appt May 29!

Oh, not breathing doesn't sound too good! Your teeth have already moved so much and I'm sure you will see even more movement now. I found the bottom brackets much more annoying than the top ones but I'm used to them now too. Good luck on May 29th!
My last appointment he said put on another chain and I was like oh no. Then they sort of dangled it in front my face and I was recoiling in horror. It wasn't AS bad as the first time though, kind of like having kids!
