Does everyone here have bands on their molars?
Does everyone here have bands on their molars to stop the brackets from falling off, or is it just as normal to have one-sided afixed brackets on molars?
My ortho usually does bands on molars, but due to the materials needed for my brackets, and the unavailability of bands in that metal, she put the one-sided affixed kinds on my molars. One came off that night while I was eating mushy overcooked broccoli, and another came off either at that time as well, or a day or so later at some unspecified some, but ended up just hanging from the wire for a while before I figured out it had come unglued.
Is this going to keep happening since I can't wear bands on the molars?

Hey!
If it happened right after you got your braces, the glue may not have cured very well.
I have brackets, no bands, and haven't had that problem yet (knock on wood).

Thank you! That is so great to hear!!!
I will not eat anything but water for as long as I can after getting these things glued back on.

Haha, do what makes you feel comfortable
I'd probably stick to relatively soft foods that first day anyhow. I still have a heck of a time with steamed broccoli, it just seems to have too much crunch in it for me to handle well. Steamed cauliflower is a go though!

Re: Does everyone here have bands on their molars?
no molar bands, just brackets so far (3 months)
Re: Does everyone here have bands on their molars?
Bands on lower 1st molars, only brackets on all the others. I have lost 1 bracket on an upper 1st molar that is heavily restored. If it comes off again,my otho has said she'll put a band.
Re: Does everyone here have bands on their molars?
I have no bands, only brackets and am bracketed right to the back molars. I have only ever lost one bracket and it was in the chair while my ortho was trying to fit the wire through. A whole lot of glue later and it hasn't moved again (I think I was about 2 1/2 months in at that point).
I have managed to chip a bracket chewing a tic tac but it hasn't come unstuck.
I think some people have problems though and that is why they get the bands.

No molar bands here. I didn't even know they existed until well into my treatment. Still not sure what they are for. That's not really helpful is it?

Ceramic uppers, metal lowers put on March 6 2012 to fix spacing issues and traumatic malocclusion. Estimated treatment time is 24 months.

One of the teeth that the bracket came off (the first night it was put on) is a crown. I remember them telling me the glue is intended for teeth, not crown material, and that there may be problems trying to keep the brakcet on.
The other tooth from which the bracket came unglued is not a highly restored tooth as far a I know, so I don't know why the bracket would have come off of that one.
I'm a little worried, since the bands are made of nickel (which I'm allergic to), and the bracket glue is not intended for use on crowns.
I hope the ortho can figure something out!

I have 25 per cent crowns and was told brackets on crowns is challenging, but so far mine are holding. I have had a couple brackets come loose, but I'm not sure if they were on crowns. They did a special process to glue brackets on my crowns.

Thanks, isthistaken! That is encouraging.
Re: Does everyone here have bands on their molars?
I don't have crowns, but my ortho said the bracket of mine that came unstuck was because the enamel on that tooth is different to my other teeth and that's what created the problem. I'm sure they'll figure something out for you

I do. I do. Hurt when I first got braced. Only problem I have is I have a very hard time flossing between them
