43 and just got six month smiles

#1 Post by Tortoise »

I just got six month smiles 6 days ago, I don't know if I'll ever open my mouth again. I hope these things work QUICK. I thought I didn't care what anybody thought, But I am being very conscious of who I am around. I hope it works well I have read everything I possibly could on the Internet about six months miles, I just hope it works for me.

Welcome to the 6MS club!

You will get used them. It took about 2 weeks before I stopped being really aware of them! Now, 3 and a half months in, I'm not religiously looking in the mirror for movement. They're just something I don't notice much anymore!

As for how quick they work, check out my updates: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... =9&t=43830

My uppers were pretty bad and I've had 2 months shaved off my estimated treatment time because of how quickly they've moved. Things might take a little time to start-off but after a couple of months things really start changing!

I look forward to following your journey!

Loving my new smile :-D

Thanks for responding to my post. I have had them on 1 week now, my bite does feel different, better I think, but i don't see any movement, I know its early yet. Do you know what size wire they used on your teeth and do they change the wire every time you went for an adjustment, will they readjust the brackets or are they in their final position when they are put on. The top of my mouth has always been very small so I am hoping that it will broaden a little bit, anyway Thanks.

They changed my wire at my first adjustment but not at my second. They did however bend the wire on either side of one of my front teeth. It comes down a little further than the other and i think this is to push it back into my head! They haven't moved any of the brackets yet but they are moving one on my third asjustment.

A word of warning...I thought that only the rubber bands themselves and not the brackets change colour but this is not the case. I drank a lot of coffee in the run up to my last adjustment and now my brackets have gone an awful yellow colour. It's not a good look. I've been brushing them with baking soda and i think it's helping to remove the stains but they're still not great. Hope I'm not stuck with them for another 4 1/2 months!

I also drink a lot of coffee and have noticed already a change, I have been rinsing with hydrogen peroxide and I think that helps, although I"m not sure of the risks of using the peroxide too much. I think that I am getting more use to them and have noticed that my bite is considerly better already, (I don't think it's "in my head") I will se my brother and mother for the first time in a year this wednesday so I will get some real and honest response. Thanks a lot for the info and the response.

Had my first adjustment, did not change the wire but I don't see a lot of movement yet, another appointment in two weeks, dentist said he will change the wire then, I hope to see some movement soon, starting to think that this isn't working, but I know it's still early.

Try not to get disheartened. The first month is all about adjusting to the braces. You'll definitely begin to see movement.

I have my 3rd adjustment next week. I hadn't seen any improvement over the last few weeks but yesterday I noticed that my snaggle tooth is really falling in line.

I hope that your fitting went well. I Was very conscious when I got them first, Now I really don't mind them too much, Not a lot of people have really notice them, I haven't seen a lot of movement but it's only been three weeks. I wish you luck with them and hope that they do what you want them to do. I hope to see some movement soon. I went back to him after two weeks and he tightened them And I could feel the pressure on the teeth which was fine with me, But now I don't feel anything, I would not want to wait one month in between visits. Let me know how your progress go's. thanks

Well I am 24 hours in so far it's ok. I'm a bit sore and I feel a lot of pressure. There are moments where I want to rip them off but I keep reminding myself that it is only a few short months.

I don't go back for a month.

Don't rip tHem off you'll be ok plus you're paying for them because you want them, your feeling a lot of pressure because they probably used the bigger wire we will get through this and it will be worth it!

I have had my third adjustment, my bite changes just about every day. My mouth was very small up top and very much " V " shaped and bottom was overcrowded with the front three protruding out, both of these issues have been addressed and I really am very pleased with the outcome so far. I think most of the movement has happened and the remainder is fine tuning, I finally have arches both top and bottom, it would be great if things got "wider" but if not I am fine with things the way they are. It has been 2 1/2 months and I wish I'd done it years ago, so if you are reading this trying to decide if you should get them, do it. It does not matter to me but I am a very skeptical type of person and don't really trust blogs but I am doing this to give my opinion and at 43 not many people get braces but I'll be done in 3 months. Good luck, I hope it helped.

Can I ask how you go in with the cleaning of your teeth? I am jut about to get mine in the next two weeks and was wondering whether I will still be able to use my electric toothbrush??

I am now 3 months into six month smiles and have seen a lot of movement, I was wondering how much more movement that I will see, I know it's a stupid question but was just wondering how other people made out, let me know. Thanks
