Second thoughts
I am a week away from getting braces and now I'm having second thoughts. Please tell me you did too before you got your braces and now you don't regret it at all! Please?
Just looking for some encouragement and to know I'm not nuts for embarking on this.

Re: Second thoughts
Hi, I'm sure there are very few of us who didn't have second, third and fourth thoughts about getting braces in the run up to starting. I certainly did with all sorts of irrational thoughts going through my mind about cost, discomfort, comments, day to day living with braces etc. etc. These thoughts started about a week before but quickly subsided partly due to the fantastic support you will get through this forum.
Sitting in the waiting room they did come back for the briefest of moments but once I was called through and got started became really interested in the whole process. Now almost four weeks in, I do not regret it for one second. I am really enjoying wearing them (take a look at my thread to see that I'm not just saying this on this occasion) and pretty much forget they are there most of the time. I'm looking forward to a really good result in about eighteen months time but in the meantime, feel more confident and happy, am enjoying the whole experience and chatting with some really great people on this site.
Good luck!

Re: Second thoughts
Honestly, I though "What the heck, my teeth are crooked, do I really want to live the rest of my life like this (already did for 35y)? Let's just get over with it."
Now, 4 months in, I don't regret it for a second. My teeth are getting better everyday, and looking at my mouth filled with brackets is certainly better than looking at my crooked teeth, so... I feel good about it
you will too, believe me - or us, pretty much everyone here will tell you that.
Time goes by really really fast. When you have them on, you'll think "It's not that hard, I wish I would've done this a couple years ago, it would be over by now".

Re: Second thoughts
I think 99% of us had second thoughts, it is normal when committing to such a long time and expense. Everyone who has reported here following their de-bracing says it was worth it! Best of luck to you and please visit here often.

Re: Second thoughts
The only regret you will have is... that you didn't do it sooner!

Re: Second thoughts
I don't regret getting braces. I love my new smile. Can't wait to see it free and clear next week! Two years seems like a long time, but you will be amazed how fast it goes by. The first year was exciting because you could see the changes happening. The second year wasn't as exciting but I knew the end was coming. I, too, wish I had done this years ago.

Re: Second thoughts
I'm having second thoughts and I havent mine yet. Lol I'm in the rpe and lower lingual arch stage and m about to lose it. I feel your pain.
Re: Second thoughts
With braces, you are making a permenant change to your body. That is always scary. I just thought how I was doing something good for myself. We all have our own reasons, but in the end, that is what it comes down to. Thinking about what your motivation is and not forgetting that throughout your treatment.
Re: Second thoughts
I think there are very few of us who didn't have second, third and fourth thoughts. Looking back now, I really don't understand why I was so worried. Sure, there are problems with having braces, food can be difficult, brushing takes forever but was it worth it, YES!!!! I can see my teeth lining up, my bite has improved, fewer headaches etc.
Go for it!
Go for it!
Re: Second thoughts
Reading all the comments above has given me determination to go through with this process of Braces. My dentist has said that i would need 4 tooth to be removed and he has extracted the 1st one. I just hope that the gap of the extracted teeth would be filled up once the procedures of braces are complete.

Do you suffer from bimax protrusion/lip incompetence?

Re: Second thoughts
From someone who is now nearly 3 months out of braces... it was worth every second, every pain, every wedged piece of food, and every dime!!! I feel like a new person now that I have the smile I've always dreamed about
So much more confidence and I feel so much more comfortable with myself! Yes, there will be some struggles, but nothing you can't handle!
Best wishes to you!
