lisping with bite turbos?

#1 Post by safetysquirrel »

I had my bite blocks (molar buildups) removed yesterday. We removed them because my bite had changed and now front teeth were sitting squarely on top of each other and clanging together when I talked - ow!

He removed the blocks and gave me a bite turbo behind one of my upper front teeth.

Here's my question - how long does it take to lose the lisp with the turbo?

I can't say my s's to save my life... Which should be the most fun next week when I'm a camp counselor and the girls have to call me 'Miss Marissa'. I can't even say my own name, lol.

I have found that putting wax on the turbo helps a bit, but I'd love advice from anyone who has these.

Thanks!

final thought - how cruel is it that 'lisp' is something that's impossible to say with a lisp, lol?

Hi, hope you get an answer soon as turbo's may be featuring in my treatment plan soon... I am pretty sure Beckyboo has turbo's so maybe a worth looking up her story. She's commented on my story a few times and I know turbo's were mentioned when I asked the question about what they would be like. Have you noticed any improvement and how are you getting on? Apart from the speech issue, what's it like having them?

I got used to mine pretty quickly. Within a week or so. My tongue still hurts from hitting it and I keep getting a "sore" spot on it. Hope you adjust quickly!

Safetysquirrel just saw this post. Not quite sure but I wonder if it has to do with the position of the teeth to begin with. Since I have a slight overbite my teeth sit out further so my tongue has never been obstructed by my teeth. When I pronounce s's I'm not hindered by the turbo bite at all.

Maybe that's what it was. I had an 80% overbite, so now everything in my mouth is in a different position. After a week and a half with it, I'm much better than I was... I still lisp hard when I'm tired or try to talk fast though.

I'm wondering if I'm not lisping so hard because the turbo is only on one tooth, so my tongue hits unevenly now...

things to ask the ortho in August!
