5 Days after first adjustment.

Today my teeth feel fine if not touched. Eating still remains a challange. Overall better today. Teeth moved very fast after the adjustment but slowing down to a crawl. The bottom wire has started its attack on my cheeks again. Its a battle of "hookamania" and "tug a cheeck" Will need to go in again and have them clipped and bent. I have also developed a terrible lisp...rather lithsp.. :gavel: Other than that its all "normal" again.

7 weeks with braces. Teeth are moving slow now. Leveling is going well and my teeth started clicking again. Few days after getting braces my teeth started clicking when the moved in (intrude) and out (extrude) of the bone. It slowly went away but started again since yesterday. Teeth are very loose. I have stopped worrying about it. Look at the levels 6 weeks apart. Notice how the teeth have leveled out and how the canines and premolars are nearly maching in height.

1 Week to go before my second adjustment. My teeth are slooooooooooooowly moving into place. Today my front teeth hurt like after my 1st adjustment. My molars on the left are touching again. Right side the molars are still inviting each other over for a tea party.

Overall it is getting easier everyday. Scratching has decreased a lot and my lips feel 100000 times better. I dont have poking wires, no cut lips and no canker sores.

I must say that I have not have a canker sore since I got braces.

What can I expect at the second adjustment?

Ok last night I lost the plot with the "blue blob monsters" on the last molars. About two weeks ago one of the blue blobs fell off and caused me to only bite down on 1...yep 1 tooth. Well last night I got a bright idea to file the blue blob down with a diamond drill/grinding/engraving bit to see how far it could go down before biting down on any brackets. Well guess what 5 min later and the blue filling is no more. Orthodontist told me when the previous one fell off that it was not critical as long I am not able to bite down on any brackets. Now I am able to bite down on both sides without touching a bracket. WHoooooooo.....3 months of only eating with 2 molars is over. My bite is improving by the minute. 4 Days to go before my second adjustment. :ouch: And it could not come any quicker. The poking wire ends are getting longer every day. Breathe in ......Breathe out......nearly there +\+

Hi Everyone

Just a quick update 2 days before me 2nd adjustment. The blue fillings are now completely no more. My teeth have really started leveling out nicely now. My teeth have never fit so comfortably in my entire life. I always had pressure on all of my teeth. To be honest I can now see the light. Things are starting too look on the bright side now.

Pics of when I started braces and now.

Ok here goes. I had my second adjustment today. Very dissapointed. The powerchain was removed, 8 rubber and 2 metal ligatures were replaced. Well within hours the gap in the front has started opening up again. Ortho said they will try a 16x22 niti copper wire for the top teeth on my third adjustment. Im very dissapointed. My teeth have stopped moving. When I asked about the poking wires I was told that the wires are long and to put wax on the ends. :( 6 Weeks of poking are going to drive me to depression. And to crown it all my ortho and perio are having an argument regarding an implant after I said no implants. The perio is just pushing for an implant and I told my ortho today, no implant and its final. He can do interproximal enamel reduction to decrease the overjet. The assistant also mentioned the bone loss around the extraction site. Yeah I wonder who is to blame. A dentist who butchered me to get the tooth out. Yup he just removed bone like it is a mineral that I can replace like vitamins. Very depressed today. I just wish i used a different dentist for the surgery. My ortho is very good. My perio im still questioning. My butcher sorry meant dentist is fired. :-=

Sorry that your adjustment didn't go well! It seems really odd to me that they won't do anything about your poking wires....are the wires too long on purpose, as in the teeth are expected to "fill out" a bit and the wire will eventually fit comfortably? Either way, I would be pretty angry if the only response they gave me was basically to just deal with it.

If you don't mind me being horribly nosy, why did you decide to not get an implant? The only reason I ask is it's kind of up in the air if I'm going to need one to replace this second molar that was just extracted, and I've heard a lot of pro's and con's from both my dentist and ortho.

Hope those teeth start moving again soon and sending positive thoughts your way!

Hi EmBee

Thank goodness no other adjustments were made. My bottom front teeth feel like they have been kicked in. Cant wait for these braces to come off. The reason i dont want implants. 1. I had a tendancy to lean towards a class 3 underbite. 2. The lower jaw has very poor blood circulation in humans and can cause more problems. 3. I have lost faith in the dental industry and now feel that the more natural I keep things the more stable my long term results will be. 4. Implants also get loose over time and need adjustments. I just feel that I will develop a overjet because of the bolton descrepancy but lets weigh up the sittuation. If a central lower incisor is extracted a bolton descrepancy of about 6 mills is created. Now if interproximal enamel reduction is done on 6 teeth of 0.3mm then a gain of 3.6mm will be achieved. So a discrepancy of 2.4mm still exists. Well then it will alieviate my edge to edge bite I had before I strated treatment. I might have an overjet of 3 to 5mm and its natural and stable for life. Implants dont come with guarantees. Hope it helps to understand my reasoning.

Hi Embee

Forgot to mention something else. Why did my ortho not mention interproximal reduction until I mentioned it today? Because IPR is done after everything is alligned and basically finished. Now the ortho will need to thin down the top teeth and then put on powerchains to pull it all together again. I sometimes think the medical industry take the easy way out because they think we are all dumb and are at their mercy. I have always wanted to become a dentist so my knowledge regarding teeth is extensive. That leaves me with some control. Im by no means a dentist or orthodontist but no push over either. Some advise to anyone reading my posts.....question your orthodontist or anyone providing medical treatment.
