I am going to get teal ligs I have heard that the blue helps to make your teeth look whiterJeniK wrote:Kids041...I will have metal on bottom and clear on top. I am excited to get my teeth straightened...but the question of spending the money is what is on my mind now. But as you said..it will all work out!
My appt is at 8:00 AM Tuesday, going to my regular dentist at 7. Thank goodness these 2 work together and their offices are close!
So with metal on the bottom...I have been trying to decide what color ligs I want! Have you thought of what color you are going to choose ?

Re: How did you tell people???
This was my thought process too. I would much rather buy for my daughter then me. Once I found out that it would be another year before she got braces and I would (hopefully) only need them for a year I went ahead since it seemed to work out. We will just always be spending money on braces....lolkids041 wrote:Well I am not nervous... right now at least... I probably will be the day of- but my apt is at 7:30 AM so I wont have much time to dwell on it. I think I will even forgo the coffee (UGH gonna be VERY hard), but I don't want to have to run to the bathroom too much from nerves/coffee...JeniK wrote:Kids041....I can tell you right now.....I am getting nervous!! Keep asking myself....are you SURE you want to do this!! After waiting so long....the time is almost here!
I have not ever asked myself if this is what I want to do as far as the actual braces go, I have questioned my decision to spend so much $$ on myself. That is actually causing me the most stress. I am not accustomed to spending that much $ on myself. My daughter- not a bit of problem spending the $ on her... I know that I am worth it, but sometimes it just seems that she has so much in front of her as far as life goes that the money is better spent on her. Anyway- I decided that it was time for me to do something for myself, and I got such an awesome payment plan set up- that I just decided to take the plunge, and not to worry. I will all work out, I have faith that it will .
JeniK- Did you say that you were getting metal traditional braces? I must have missed you telling me.

Re: How did you tell people???
I said I wasn't going to tell anyone apart from my husband (obviously!) and my sister....but I couldn't contain myself and told practically everyone who would listen! Some people are only just noticing now and I'm 18 weeks in with ceramics on the top.

i can't describe better what i think!!!
I went shopping recently with 2 friends. One knew I got braces and the other had no idea of my plans. I feel like I cant talk right some times so I said something about it and they were both like what? braces? I didnt even notice. Then again at lunch while I was pulling my sandwich apart I commented what a chore it was and again they were 'I totally forgot because you cant tell'. Of course I think they were just trying to make me feel good.
Re: How did you tell people???
I'd want to tell, that i've braces, to all the world, but i'm so self-conscious, that i prefer not smile, not say a word, not see people !!!
I like what i see in the mirror but my problem is that i don't know what people thnk of me having braces
i know, when i speak people see the metal but i can't smile.. i'm not able to show them to the world...so i don' speak very much and i smile with my mouth closed...
I'm feeling stupid to do so but it's what i do!!!
SOS???

I am just letting people notice on their own. I told my daughter because I didn't want it to be a shock to her.
I am very self-conscious and find smiling difficult!

Re: How did you tell people???
I have some people where I live who are very critical about everything: "Like why fix something you don't need too??: why spend money like that when you are going to end up with dentures anyway?.
My answer is: I may be 63, but I have been told repeatedly that I have the teeth and gums of a twenty year old, so why not get the smile i have always wanted.
One eagle eyed person noticed and said "BRACES" and then she agreed with my statement, and said I had a beautiful smile anyway!
I told a few close friends who are all elderly and most have had kids or grand kids with braces and nobody cares!
I also shared with a few friends my own age and one had braces when she was in her 40's, and is in her 70's now.
I have clear uppers and they are not that noticeable!

Almost nobody said anything when I got my braces, and absolutely nobody has said anything in the three weeks I've had them off. Non-issue. Nobody cares...and I'm older than you and in the professional world.

Re: How did you tell people???
I just tell them , and so far it's been 50/50 , some say I am totally insane , the other half think its the coolest thing and I am 60,, I think it is the coolest thing I ever did
Re: How did you tell people???
I only told my wife, son and a few members of her family. When my parents came to visit 9 months after I got them they were shocked!
Re: How did you tell people???
I've only told a handful of people because I don't want anyone to try and talk me out of it. After I get them, I'm going to post a pic on Facebook and be done with it. Simple yet effective.

Re: How did you tell people???
I haven't actually gotten braces yet. I'm supposed to have an expander for 6 months before I get them. Anyway, my appointments interfered with some things with my sister so I told her I had an orthodontist appointment. Then she responded that she knew she'd need then at some point too. Recently I was out to dinner with my brother and complaining about the expander and he said he'd probably need one too. So, if anything I think I'm pushing my siblings to start fixing their teeth as adults too. Our parents couldn't afford it when we were little. I'm very happy it's happening now and of course my friends have said things like "you don't have bad teeth, why are you getting braces?". It's amazing how truly crooked my teeth are but so few people actually know because I keep my mouth closed as much as possible. But, everybody is really supportive. I can't imagine anyone I know being mean about it, just surprised.
Re: How did you tell people???
This is an interesting topic!
My family (sisters and mom) have been talking to me about braces for awhile now. Both sisters (both younger) had braces+expander, so I was asking them a lot of questions.
I haven't really told anyone else. Some of my coworkers know since I've been complaining about the spacers hurting

I told family and friends and some colleagues. I think it will be interesting to see how soon other people notice. I'm getting ceramic uppers and lowers in a couple months.
