Hello

#1 Post by ichigo9 »

Hey everyone,

I recently found the forum and decided to register after reading lots of threads/articles. This is a goldmine in terms of information and I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon it! I'm 25, currently researching orthodontists to get braces. I'm really scared, for one particular reason: I've always been prone to mouth ulcers (canker sores) ever since I was a preteen. I get them mainly when I accidentally bite the inside of my lip while eating, or if I eat abrasive food. :( I'm praying that it won't be too bad.

hello & welcome! if that is your only concern, i would definitely go forward with treatment. before braces, i would get the occasional canker sore from the usual suspects (injury, acidic food/drink, etc.) so it was definitely a concern of mine as well. however, i am approaching my 4th week with braces and have yet to experience any sores. the top of my cheeks get raw but only on the days that i talk or smile a lot and actually this has only really happened once or twice. the best product for this is Rincinol (by the brand G.U.M.) and good ol' ortho wax.

good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, wishing you luck for your treatment! I haven't begun the process of getting braces yet and I'm definitely finding the prospect of it daunting. I'm 28 and now I wish I'd started at 25 like you!
