I have only had mine on a week, but I was so nervous to get braces because I was focusing on the idea of me feeling self-conscious.I teach undergraduates where I am currently studying and they were all so supportive when I showed up to class on Monday. Many of them gave me helpful tips and advice. I also had a meeting with my advisor yesterday and a few colleagues and no one even noticed, or they certainly did not focus on them if they did (I have clear on top and metal on bottom). I showed my braces to my advisor when I was heading out and she said they looked great. I can't believe I put off treatment for so many years over worrying about how I would feel. Now I have not seen my family yet, but maybe aside from a few jokes, I am sure they will be very supportive as well. I am thrilled that I went through with it! Best of luck to everyone! :D

I haven't gotten braced yet, but it's encouraging to read that so many of y'all aren't self-conscious at all. I'll probably be a 10 during the first week or so when everyone is seeing them for the first time. But I imagine it'll go down to about a 1/2 from there. My top teeth are pretty straight already, so I'm hoping that'll help me feel not so self-conscious.
