What did you do with your 'left-overs'?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

What did you do with your 'left-overs'?

#1 Post by TMJJill »

I have a bunch of 'stuff' left from when my braces were on. I have tons of boxes of regular wax, several large boxes of silicone wax, a whole menagerie of elastics... for a while there, I had 6 elastic configurations a day, 3 kinds of flossers, and 3 kinds of threader floss.

While the flossers were great when I was flossing my braces one-handed, they do the job still, but I don't find them the most effective now. I guess I'll use the threader flosses, but I no longer need to thread. The large silicone wax, I can use for ear plugs as they were designed for.... but I never wear ear plugs. The regular ortho wax, I haven't figured a use for. The elastics just sit there looking cute...all 10 bags of them. I have no need for them, but I just can't bring myself to throw anything out yet. Am I weird? I keep thinking I may run into someone else in braces who may need something... Like they would want my elastics when their dentist probably gives them plenty.

I also have 4 dental splints I no longer need. Two of them were my 'friends' for so long and helped me so much, I feel thankful to have had them. Crazy to keep those, but I spent thousands of dollars on them and it doesn't feel right to throw out something so expensive.

Maybe one of these days, I'll have that boost to just throw everything out.

Also, for those of you who Water Pik'ed during your braces, how often do you use the WaterPik now? I feel like I'm neglecting mine now that I can get a very good floss in without it.

I'm still new to the whole thing, so nowhere near having leftovers, but I hate the regular wax and am just letting my nine year old son play with it. Ha.

Jill~ I still use my waterpik since being debraced, every day and it still finds food whether or not I have flossed before or after! Don't neglect your waterpik, healthy gums = a happy mouth!

You could donate some items to a local middle school.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

the waxes, elastics...cost your orthodontist next to nothing. they're worthless to anyone but you. dispose of them. waterpik, either use it, or toss it.

ebay! or offer up for sale on here if you're allowed? even if it's just for the price of the postage.. I'm on the lookout for a waterpik but postage to Aussie may cost more than buying one here LOL
