Regretting getting colored ties. Can I change them early?

#1 Post by allmimsy »

Hello everyone! I just got ceramic braces yesterday. The assistant offered me "tooth-colored" wire ties, but I went with teal elastic ties because I was afraid that the "tooth-colored" ones would make my stained teeth look even darker, and I was trying to retain a sense of humor and keep everything "fun." Well, it's day 2 and I'm on the verge of tears because I hate the teal so much. I thought I would like them because I saw pictures of people's beautiful colored braces in this forum, but I think it makes *me* look like I'm 12 (I'm 30). It doesn't help that I'm also struggling with adult acne since going off my birth control pills earlier this year. I work in an office environment where I want to look like a professional adult, not an awkward teenager. My heart just sinks every time I look in the mirror. My next ortho appointment isn't for eight weeks, so I have a question for those with more experience with ortho offices: Do you find that they're pretty accommodating when it comes to changing ties before scheduled adjustments? I was hoping to just go in on Monday and have them changed really quickly, since it seems to take no time at all. I'd even settle for a lighter colored elastic if they didn't want to take the time to do the wire ones without an appointment. What do you think? I would just call my ortho office and ask right now, but they're closed until Monday morning.

Or am I freaking out over nothing? :)

Thanks in advance for any advice or encouragement. I'm so glad to have found this forum!

Best thing would be to call them on monday and see if they have what you want, in some cases, they need to order them (my ortho for instance needs to order my elastics for me, so i let her know in advance). As for the colors, you learn as you go. Chances are no one will really take notice of the color in the same way you do. They could just say "oh look pretty!".

I wouldn't worry, just give the office a call to get the ties switch. No big deal. They are usually very accommodating and nice about things like this. :)

It's quite a shock getting braces, huh?

Getting braces can be quite a shock but you do get used to them and your appearance in time.
I'm sure if you give them a call I'm sure they will be able to change them for you. It's not big deal. I have metal ties with ceramic brackets rather than ligatures. It means I have no issues with staining.

I've done that

I now get colored ties on the bottom every appointment. I've had blue, navy, teal (didn't like), purple (today)...I was going to get hot pink but the pink they had was more neon :)

I *always* get pearl on my ceramics! LOL!

Always the boring silver ones for me on my metal brackets... a reflection of my tender youth, where I could have any color lig I wanted, as long as it was grey.

Although I wonder what the reaction would be at a customer visit if I got them done in my company's logo color instead. (Primary-color blue) Or, since all our products are painted black, alternate black and blue.

LOL! Sirwired, I have, for the past 4 months, gotten colored ties at each visit. I don't show my lowers much when talking and I really don't think anyone has noticed. It's like a fun little thing for me -and- okay...my 15 year old likes it. She thinks it's cool :)
