Getting Spacers Next Week

#1 Post by infrarojos »

Hi! I'm 19 and I will be starting my brace journey next week with spacers. Needless to say, I am terrified, but also a little bit excited because in the long run I'll have great teeth!

I'll be getting ceramic braces. My ortho said that my treatment would take 24-30 months.

What should I expect?

Congrats on getting started with your journey with braces! :) I just got my spacers in last wednesday and getting them put in isn't too bad. It just feels like you have food stuck in between your teeth. It took about five minutes to get mine in place. lol. About 5 or 6 hours after I got them in, my teeth started to hurt. They hurt for a few more days, but now I don't even notice I have them in.

Expect that you have to eat really soft foods for the first few days. Try to have a variety so that you don't get sick of them. Don't eat anything chewy or sticky (but I'm sure that they'll tell you that), otherwise your spacers might come out before they should.

Good luck! :D

Ah good luck!

Second on the soft foods with spacers. I had mine put (back) in on Monday. Mine seem to really, really hurt, but I have some weird bite issues beyond just teeth :)

Soreness... lots of soreness!

I really wanted to cry on the first night with the spacers. Picked up some Oragel to help with the pain which was gone by the 4th day or so. Also, make sure you put the spacers back in if they fall out or you swallow them (in your sleep or while you're eating).

Good luck!

I got spacers put in a few days ago also. Didn't really hurt too much the first day, but the next couple of days my front teeth were pretty sore when eating (spacers were on the back uppers). The soreness is getting better now. I wonder how this will compare to the day the braces go on...

I got spacers put in yesterday. It only hurts when I chew, otherwise it just feels a bit uncomfortable like food stuck between you teeth! I'll be sticking to soft food for the next couple of days.

Spacers are pretty uncomfortable, they hurt me for about 4 days but now I hardly notice them after about a week and a half.

Definitely have some good painkillers around.

Good luck. :)
