Considering stopping treatment

It's been awhile since I have posted here. I am really considering stopping my treatment. It's not the braces that bother me.Its the constant putting in and taking out of the RPE appliance. Since I started the treatment I have had two different RPEs and apparently they weren't working because only one side of my mouth was affected.The last time I went in ( the week before thanksgiving) he did a mold for a third RPE for the top and a Nance for the bottom and they said they would call me back in when they were ready. It's been a month and I seriously don't want these appliances. I just want to stop with appliances. The bottom braces are fine and don't bother me. I know I'm making the wrong decision but I'm just tired and frustrated.

Aww, hang in there. I haven't needed any appliances so I can only sympathize with you.

Talk to your ortho about your concerns. Try not to give up!

Im sorry you are having a rough time. I would call and tell your ortho exactly how you feel. I hit a frustrating point recently too but Im hoping its over now.

Definitely talk to your orthodontist about how you're feeling. I haven't had appliances, but have lingual braces, and at about three or four weeks I hit a total wall and was sure that I wanted them removed. My husband took our daughter for her appointment and mentioned how I was feeling to the ortho, and he made some suggestions and said, "tell her to give it just a bit longer; I really think that she'll be fine". And he was right. About a week later, I turned the corner, and though I've had a few bad days since then, it's mostly manageable.

Maybe there is a different treatment path that could be considered, or something they can do to help get you through this part. I'm sorry that you're feeling so down. I know that it's a miserable feeling.

Well I DO know how you feel---it's a terrible feeling that was even beginning to affect my mental health. I had the Forsus appliance. One day I just went in and told him I couldn't take it anymore--and he took it out--no problem!...You never know, the ortho may have other things up his sleeve. Just try to explain to him that you even feel like quitting because it is affecting you so much. He probably has absolutely no idea you are going thru this, and might throw out other options. It's worth a try!

Just don't give up!!!!!

I do sympathise with you, share your frustrations with your ortho. I agree with everyone else, don't give up..

I see what everyone is saying , but ortho is a bit aggressive and he doesn't really take no for an answer. He knows i hate those appliances and don't want them .I have had this talk and he knows how frustrated i am . It's painful and time consuming. I work over night , go to school, and i will have to go every three days to have the appliance adjusted. I'm doing all of this on this bus and walking 2 blocks to his office . Before i agreed to this treatment i should have had a second opinion. The fact that i didn't is my fault. Now i feel stuck because i really don't want to go back .I'll have to go to another dentist to have the bottom braces removed because i know he won't remove them without a fight.

i have told him how i feel and he says this is the only way to go. I can't take four years of applying and removing theses appliances that aren't working.

I really do understand and sympathize--it's not a happy place to be mentally. I wish I had an answer for you, I really do.

Would you be able to get a partial refund of some sort since treatment is not completed?
