Terrible result from surgery

Hi, im a 24 year old male. I had double jaw surgery (bi-max) to correct my underbite/crossbite. The surgery was preformed five days ago, so I still have some swelling. I didn't feel too bad about my underbite, but as I got the treatment for free I thought "why not go for it".

Unfortunately for me, the esthetic and functional outcome is quite bad. Now I have 5mm overbite+crossbite instead of 5mm underbite/crossbite, and as you can imagine with these numbers, I look horrific. The bite is worse than it was, I only connect with 1 tooth on the left side and 3 on the right side. The surgeon was very experienced and two other surgeons at the same hospital also agreed on the surgical plan. On the bright side, I have almost not lost any feeling in my lips,chin or face. It's only the gums in my upper jaw that have no feeling at all. I may upload pictures later, but I'm really not in the mood for it at the moment.

All this time and effort only to get a worse bite and a ruined face. This sucks so much, I find it hard to believe. Be careful guys, if you have any doubts in your orthodontist or surgeon, visit a third party and get another opinion.

Some relapse always occurs with orthognathic surgery. You'd think all the plates would keep anything from moving, but they don't.

It'll be at least another month before the success (or lack thereof) of the surgery can be evaluated. And it's always in the plan for the ortho to do some tweaking to get your bite properly integrated post-surgery.

I think the standard is a 3-mm overbite (not 0), you're just 2 mm over in fact. You're pretty close, with the braces your ortho will probably be able to adjust it to 3 mm.

I had a 1cm lower jaw advancement, and after surgery, my teeth barely met, and I remember not knowing where to bite down because nowhere seemed to fit but that's what the orthodontic work post surgery are for. Mine was only for 6 months, with elastics, and now 3 years later I still have a perfect bite. So don't worry about not having a perfect bite strait after surgery, there's still a way to go before it all aligns up
