$2000 here as well. And it sounds like I should be thrilled with that.

Mine doesn't pay a single red cent. I think I'm getting off pretty lucky though because my treatment will "only" be about $4,500!

Yeah, 100% out-of-pocket for me. I have pretty awesome insurance, but it still only covers orthodontia for children up to age 19, and even then just 50% of the cost up to $1,000.

I did get a 5% discount for paying for the whole sha-bang up-front, though. I believe it ended up being around $4,500-$4,600 (ish). I purged my state retirement account for the funds, but it was definitely worth it. I'm not yet 30, so I'll have plenty of time to rebuild the nest egg... and I'll be doing it with beautifully straight teeth! :D

That sucks!!! Mine are right up with you, if I go with the ortho I'm leaning towards, at $6850 if I don't become a surgical patient. (Add $1290 if I do.) I am so thankful it will be partially taken care of by insurance.
Over $8,000 for braces for a surgical case?! And I thought my price was outrageous. The only thing that consoles me is that if you break that price down per visit, they aren't making nearly as much as say a surgeon who only treats you once: when the surgery is performed. Now I have to get a crown lengthening procedure and that's another $1,900-2,350 out of my pocket. I better have perfect teeth after this!
Braces removed for 3rd and final time July 14, 2016!!!!

Permanent 8 crowns front 8 teeth (upper) January 30, 2015

Braces removed again December 3, 2014!!

Partial braces re-installation September 25, 2014

Braces removed September 4, 2014!

I need braces for almost 3 years :( That probably explains part of the cost. How long will you be in treatment?

Sorry about your extra cost!! Yes, I am sure your teeth will be awesome, and so worth it. :)

Delta Dental: $2000 for adult (lifetime limit, but I'm hoping this will be my last time in braces!). I thought that decent, but now I see it is better than most.

My health insurance has really low co-pays and deductibles for in-network care, but isn't always happy about covering this. Fortunately, they approved my surgery, so that won't cost me much. It did make me feel like surgery was justified when a surgeon told me that they usually don't cover orthognathic surgery, but if they did for anyone, they would for me. And the first round was positive. They'll look at it again once it is time to schedule, but it sounds like they don't usually change their minds.

good luck

A lifetime maximum of $1,000. My orthodontist was shocked that they offered the benefit to adults as most of his patients' dental insurance does not cover anything for adult braces.

Insurance covered $1500, then used FSA to help pay for the rest (almost 7k).

Wow... our FSA has a yearly max of $2500... which I plan to max out next year. But between visits to the chiropractor, the dentist, and (occasionally) the doctor, I won't have the whole amount to be reimbursed for braces. :(

Mine like many others won't cover me since I am over 19....why isn't this age discrimination? Basically paying for a benefit for a child under 19 I don't have

That's how group insurance works. My insurance covers sex change operations, I won't ever need one of those. It covers a lot of stuff I'll never need. We all (well, at least the employees who have the insurance) pay into it for everyone's mutual benefit. Otherwise the colossal expense of medical care would send us all into bankruptcy.
