bite turbo

#1 Post by bjohnson207 »

Hello,

I just had a question about bit turbos? What are you experience with them and how do they affect speech? I asked my ortho at last apt if there was any way to speed things up a bit and he mentioned these? How do these speed things up in your experiences? I am a business owner and speak in public everyday so does it affect your speech more that just getting braces did. It was about two or three weeks till I thought I could speak normally again after I first got my uppers... I would be greatfull for any tips, thoughts or comments on this.

Thanks
Bobbie

I got mine on day 1 because I had a crossbite and it allowed the teeth to move freely past each other. I still have them 9 months later, but they've worn down significantly. It was tough to eat the first couple weeks, but you get used to them. I don't remember my speech being affected very much... maybe a little bit of a lisp, but that also could have been caused by the braces and no one noticed anyway.
Had Damons (ceramic upper, metal lower) from June 27, 2013 - January 20, 2015
15-18 month sentence, official time in braces was 18 months, 3 weeks, 3 days

I had them for seven months. Without a doubt, they were tough to get used to and I initially hated them. I had a big new business pitch the first week I had them and was petrified. I got through it just fine. As with anything brace-related, it definitely gets easier. They helped open up my bite and I would say they sped up my treatment. I'm glad I had them.

Good luck.

Okay I hope I get one just to make more progress. It may suck for a bit but it should be worth it in the end!

It's definitely worth it! I got them on (in addition to a palatal expander) and, while my speech was affected initially, it didn't take long for it to go back to normal! It will leave an imprint on your tongue, though, and that might bother you for a few days. Definitely get acrylic ones, not metal.
Sentence:
28 months in full upper and lower braces, open coil spring for additional alignment space for permanent teeth to erupt, elastics to align back bite, bite turbos, and palate expander.

My uppers covered my lowers about 60-70%! Right now my teeth are almost completely touching on the sides and my uppers are resting a little above my lower braces, and I've only had the turbos for 3 months.

Wow! Do your bottom teeth touch the roof of your mouth?
BJohnson, did you get the turbos on yesterday?

Funnily enough I think only one of my lower teeth is impacting my top teeth - my dentist made me bite this ink paper once and it showed up on my teeth where it was hitting and it appeared to be on only one of my teeth - it has done lots of damage to my lower and upper teeth though and now its affecting my jaw joints :( :(

I'm trying to get treatment on the national health as its causing me a lot of discomfort but its very difficult to do so once over the age of 18.

I had to bite on the paper, too!
Many insurance companies and what have you only offer benefits for children to get braces, not adults, it sucks!

I have acrylic turbos and I hate hate hated them for the first few weeks. Now I'm starting week 5 and guess what? I STILL hate them...but my very deep bite is actually starting to close already, enough that I can notice it! So I guess I have to respect the turbos.
