Crackling teeth
Hi everyone, I'm new here, I just got my braces last month, I am 27 years old. I've noticed that when I clench down on my teeth some of them make crackling sounds. I've developed somewhat of a habit where I can't stop clenching and unclenching my jaw to hear and feel the crackling sounds. It seems to be worse a week or so after an adjustment. Does everyone experience this and is it harmful to be clenching the way I am? Thanks in advance for your input!

Re: Crackling teeth
I've had the same issue. I haven't done it for months, but I could definitely notice the first 6 months that I kept clenching and I thought I was breaking my teeth! But, from what I have read, it is normal and you are just adjusting to the treatment and it usually happens up to two weeks after adjustments. As it progresses it should stop.
I'm 27 too! Welcome to the club lol. Msg me any time!

Re: Crackling teeth
The sounds are totally normal. Your teeth are being loosened by the braces.
That is why they make the crackling/clicking noises
I also had a habit of clenching to hear the noises, and I stopped myself. I would say it's probably best for your jaw joints not to clench. I only remember hearing these noises for about 6 months of my treatment.
Congrats on starting your journey!

Re: Crackling teeth
I like to push on the backs of my teeth with my tongue to make the crackling noises, then use my lips to push them the other direction... I know that is weird... but I catch myself doing it all the time. My teeth do it for the first couple of weeks after an adjustment too. Then they stop.. I wonder if that means that they are not moving as much??? IDK...
Re: Crackling teeth
It's perfectly normal. My teeth stopped making crackling noises after the first few months.

Re: Crackling teeth
My teeth still click and pop and I'm 13 months in. Just certain teeth I guess.
Re: Crackling teeth
I have never heard of what exactly the crackling sound is. But to me it means movement. Which is good. (most of the time).

Re: Crackling teeth
Thanks for the post, I'm also 27 and just got my braces a month ago. I've noticed the crackling too...its totally alarming at first but kind of addictive to push on your teeth and hear movement.
Re: Crackling teeth
I have one tooth that does this and I can't stop clicking it then I get scared that ive clicked it in the wrong direction and click it back!
