Nose shape after Upper Jaw surgery

#1 Post by Kessler »

Hi, over two months now since my double jaw surgery. My left nostril is wider than my right nostril. Not immediately noticeable, but it shows up more in pictures. Plus when I smile, my right nostril raises higher than my left. Inside my left nostril, the columbella is larger, plus there is some bone visible if I look hard enough - I guess this is the central nasal bone.

Did anyone have strange issues with their nose at this stage that were then resolved later through healing, or am I to assume now given that it's over 8 weeks post op, that this is how things will be from now on. Surgeon had assured me there would be no change to my nose :-+

My nose is ever-so-slightly crooked now. This is not a surprising result, given the movements I had done.

I was assured the same, and my nose got notably wider. I have an appointment with my surgeon on Monday to take in my nostrils closer to where they were before the surgery. It's a quick 30 min procedure and it can be done right in the office, he's not charging me because he considers it part of the treatment I already paid for. I guess this happens more than I thought, though why why why do they not mention that when you ask them the question: will my nose change? It's a clear enough question. Drives me crazy. Anyway, if you get past the 6 month point and you find things still don't look right this might be an option for you. But for now give it time. My nose did come down quite a bit from my 2 month point to now. Things might resolve on their own.

By somewhere around 5 or 6 months post op, I thought my nose was noticeably upturned, and my nostrils were wider. It's a year later, and I would be hard pressed to point out any specific change in my nose (I notice a very slight difference but no one else would notice it even when pointed out).

The upshot is, even if you feel like most of it is gone, the swelling will probably continue to reduce over the coming months. The shape of your nose may get closer to what you're used to as it does.

katsface, when did you start to feel like you had returned to your original nose? Did that start recently (a year and a half post op) or a while ago?
