Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like I'm going to have to cut down on 10 cups of tea a day, :) probably not a bad thing! Change of plan and my appointment is next Tuesday so it solves the problem with work, I'll be off for the first 8 weeks of treatment. I'm hoping I'll snack less and drop a few pounds before holidays!

Update

Well just back from my first review, dentist really pleased with results so far and showed me the cast of my teeth originally and you can see they have moved. They were wobbly last week but have firmed up again now. I had more filing and he adjusted the bow at the front, he also said I would have to have 2 'composite blobs' on the front of my teeth probably next review (not looking forward to those!) All in all came away feeling very positive. Next review Friday 11th.

Good luck to tmcn and al1979.

Cmfarmgate bet you'll be surprised they probably have moved more. Hope you get good news.

Chrisncal3. I echo what's been said I would go and see a dentist/orthodontist to ask their advice even if it's not the original one you saw.

Well done, what good news and don't worry about the composite blobs on the front of your teeth at your next review, I had one last time and you can't see it at all it just stops the front of the aligner moving up too far. Have you found your speech is a bit better after your first review, I certainly did.

Can't wait for my review on the 8th - I've never wanted to see the dentist so much in my life!!!

I've just had my aligner fitted. It looked smaller than I imagined, but doesn't feel it! I have a chain at the moment, as my front tooth sticks out too far, then later they will change it for a wire. The saliva is just too much!

Fitting wasn't as bad as I anticipated, but getting the chain over my teeth was the hardest. And speech. Hmm, well, no comment!

The shaving of the teeth was nothing, I'd scared myself rigid reading about how awful it is but it really didn't bother me at all.

Paying was the worst bit so far!! I have taken a pic, happy to post it but not sure how?

We all know how you must be feeling, I promise you it will get better and your speech will improve. The first week is the worst and the saliva thing is awful but, again will improve a bit although I still find that quite difficult if speaking a lot on the phone or in general conversation.

It will be worth it in the end so stick at it and persevere.

Good luck!

Thank you cjfarmgate. The best news is, I'm a hairdresser and have to talk all day long! I did go to town 3 hours after having it fitted and had to speak in a shop with a few people in, which was somewhat embarrassing :-o

Yes we all know how you feel, I'm not convinced the saliva bit improves. My husband says I'm constantly making a sucking noise!! I think the speech does though but not the lisp. Still it will all be worth it in the end, can't wait. This christmas I may actually have my photo taken!

Velvettiger, I hope I don't slobber on any clients tomorrow! The sucking noise when I open my mouth to attempt to speak this foreign language is gross. My neighbour couldn't stop laughing so I was deliberately using lots of words with 'S's' in and 'ch'.

I might laugh on the odd occasion once my treatment has finished!

cjfarmgate, no extra gloopy substance was placed on the clients' hair. And I managed to get through 7 hours today non-stop talking as I did a huge fundraising event at work. I'm the Inman Aligner superstar, but don't ask me to say that outloud .... please.

I can put up with my dreadful speech. But the springs? Really? Do they have to leave indentations in my cheeks? I need some form of scaffolding to hold my cheeks out a bit to make room ...

Joking aside it's getting easier. It's only the 3rd full day I've had it. And I'm loving the fact that it stops me snacking. I was cooking dinner earlier, started grating cheese, went to cut a slice to scoff (which could have led to several slices) and then !STOP! No can do! :-)

Hello!

I've been reading this page for the last few weeks, I think I must have read nearly all 132 pages!! It's so helpful to read all your stories and experiences!

I'm based in Dublin and I have visited 2 dentists about the Inman Aligner, both of whom were really pushing the six month smiles instead. With the second dentist I explained I really don't want to get the fixed braces so she said let's go for it with the inman, although it will take 4-5 months and I'll need a couple of clear trays at the end. I really love the idea that it is removable, for meetings, meals out etc.

I was just wondering whether those of you who have the Inman would think it is almost as bad as having fixed brackets? Are the composite blobs very visible when it's out? She has said that the 6 month smiles would only take 4 months, but I just really want a removable device!! Would anyone have any advice on this? Is the inman so much better than the fixed brackets as I am imagining it to be??

Thanks so much, it's great to find a forum like this, your teeth are all looking great which is so inspiring!!

:)

Great to find this site, I have my first consultation tomorrow, to see whether I am suitable for inman aligner treatment. Feeling nervous!

Personally the aligner appealed to me because I could take it out. I didn't like the idea of fixed braces at my age. It does feel strange in your mouth and obviously speech is a big thing which you will notice we all mention. I understand fixed braces don't affect your speech, so bearing in mind treatment time is relatively similar, you may need to think about that if your job involves a lot of speaking, because if you wear the aligner less then it may take longer. I didn't consider any other option, because it was a pretty snap decision to get the aligner!! Good luck with your decision.

Thanks Velvettiger!

I don't need to talk much for my job, we work on our own separate projects so most of the chatting happens at lunch or prescheduled meetings. The main appeal for me is discreetness outside of work, like you I really don't like the idea of fixed braces at this age. Do you feel you can go out without it, and people won't notice the composite blobs?
Thanks for your advice, if you are also against the idea of fixed braces and are happy with the Inman it is probably a similarly good choice for me!

Hi Rosiesue

I agree with velvetiger in everything stated, with regard to the composite blobs, they are hardly noticeable when you have your aligner out as they colour match it to your own tooth colour. I'm just past the six week stage now and have had more filing and composite blobs to the front of two of my teeth and the aligner itself has been adjusted. Apparently one tooth needs to move just one more millimeter so by my next review on 29th July he should be able to take impressions to send to the lab to get the retainers made which will feel a whole lot better than the aligner - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I now only have about 5 weeks left wearing the aligner before I can get to the more comfortable retainer stage. I feel sure that if you go for the aligner, although it will be hard for the first week, it will definitely be worth it. But like everyone on this site, do try to keep it in as much as you possibly can as this will give you the best result the fastest way.

Good luck!
