Re: long face syndrome and skeletal open bite. Question
For an actual diagnosis of what facial deformities you may or may not have, you need to see an orthodontist or oral surgeon, who will use x-rays to take measurements and tell you where they differ from accepted norms and give you a name for it, if it has one. It's hard to tell just by looking at yourself in the mirror, as normal differences in soft tissue (skin, muscles, fat, and cartilage) can accentuate or disguise all sorts of things. X-rays have all sorts of well-defined reference points they can check and compare to charts.

but this what is that ....... long FACE Syndrome
If it was not apparent, it was not a problem.

Re: long face syndrome and skeletal open bite. Question
Of course I'm not a medical expert, but I had (maybe have) what is referred to as long face syndrome. It's basically when you have a rather long face because of structural deformities. It can be a long lower jaw, or long upper. In my case, it was a long upper jaw which also gave me a gummy smile.
But...but...here's the kicker: I underwent upper and lower jaw surgery to fix this long face/gummy smile and I feel like I ended up with an even longer face : ( Even though my upper jaw was moved up and back, my lower jaw was brought forward and I had genioplasty to bring my chin slightly forward (not down). Somehow though, I feel like I ended up trading a gummy smile for a Jay Leno chin.
And I was thin to begin with and lost 15 lbs which I never regained so for a while I felt like I had Angelina Jolie's Malificent cheekbones. So if you think surgery might fix your long face, think again. If it's not a structural deformity but you just naturally have a long oval face, that will just be your face : )
Hope this helps.

Re: long face syndrome and skeletal open bite. Question
It also sounds like long face syndrome may also cause chronic mouth breathing. I used to be a mouth breather as a child and remember my parents always telling me to close my mouth. Now I have an open bite which I am getting treated w/ braces. I too wonder now if I might have long face syndrome. My ortho hasn't mentioned it to me though.
