Inman aligners

Hi lady f,
Getting on fine so far. At the beginning I had to jam it in as it was so tight but now it slips on quite easily, I guess that means my teeth have moved somewhat although I haven't really noticed in the mirror. Have had a quiet week so I've been able to keep it in for about 19 or 20 hours per day. I know it's going to be hard on holidays so I'm trying to wear it as much as possible until then. My teeth aren't as tender and my speech has improved a very small bit. I'm definitely snacking less and sticking to my three meals which is good!

I've had to delay my check up by three days and he was meant to show me how to tighten it with the key. Can anyone tell me how to do this as I don't want it to be too loose by time I see him.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

I don't know if yours is the same as mine, but I have to turn mine weekly. In the middle of my aligner there's a hole, and then a yellow arrow so basically I just have to put the key in the hole, turn it in the direction of the arrow until it can't turn anymore and then just take the key out.

Great, that is like mine. I'm meant to do it once a week too but because it was so tight when I first got it he said to leave it. The arrow on mine goes down. So do I stick the key in one of the holes and pull down? There's an arrow on the other side too but that says go up but there's no hole as such so do I just leave that side?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for getting IA done for my upper teeth in Melbourne AUS!
had braces 2 years ago, mainly front teeth have shifted because of losing/breaking retainers/dentist was on holiday.
I just had a quote for IA at optical caring dentistry in toorak for ~3-4k
I'm a poor student, I can't possibly afford that right now, for one arch?
I read someone here had a IA quoted for 1500k which was what I was hoping for!!
Also trying to find a place that has free consultations or can be covered by basic covers with medibank for this stingy student

Hi tmcn, sounds as though you're doing great! 19/20 hours is good! The IA official leaflet says 15-20 although my dentist says 20-22. I managed for 22 hours yesterday, although I did have to take some painkillers in the afternoon as my face/head was feeling so tense. Like you, I'm noticing it's not quite as tight trying to put it in and I'm less scared I'm going to break the thing! The no-snacking thing is definitely a bonus!

I don't have a key to tighten it so sounds like ours are a bit different.

Hi APAE - not sure what the cost would be in Australia and how your insurance works, I was quoted £1400 approx in the UK. Have a look on the website and see if there is a dentist near you - here's the link - http://www.inmanaligner.com/postcode-search-results.php

That is exactly like mine. Just go in the direction of the arrow, I think the arrow on the other side is just so you don't go in the wrong direction. You put the key in the top of the aligner, where it touches the roof of your mouth, and turn in the direction of the arrow. I have an arrow underneath as well and can turn mine from either side, but I do it from the top.

Yeah I saw that on the leaflet so I'm going to go by that even though my dentist said max 18. At the minute I can wear it for more than that but I know in a few weeks it'll be more like 15. Have it in a week today and although my teeth have moved to fit the alighner better, the photos don't show much movement so I'm going to focus on my one month pictures and hope to see a difference then. I haven't experienced any pain apart from the first day, yours sounds quite tight still. Hopefully that'll subside. Well done on the 22 hours! Yeah I was scared I was going to crack my teeth the first few day, the sound of it when I jammed it in was horrible. I presume it could go back that way when he tightens it again..

Hi guys, just thought I would update you.

the dentist has decided I need to start my treatment with a full time expansion appliance for 6 weeks. This is due to overcrowding. They could add this to my inman aligner, but think it will work better if it is carried out on its own first. After this period I will switch to the inman for approx 12-14 weeks. She is hoping by having them separately, it will be better for me and more effective. So I am booked in for 12 August to start the first part on with the expander.

Has anyone else had a 2 stage approach?

Good luck with your treatment, have never had an expander so have no idea I'm afraid but I'm sure everything your dentist is doing is to get you the best possible result.

Keep posting how you get on with it.

I've had my aligner for a month tomorrow and wear it for around 18/19/20 hours a day. Just this week my back teeth have started feeling sensitive when I bite. I don't bite with my front teeth because of the composite blobs. Is this normal for the back ones to feel sensitive as well?

I can't say as I've noticed any sensitivity in my back teeth, I've had my aligner for just over 6 weeks now, but I also have 4 composite blobs 2 on front and 2 on back but I've still been eating normally. I just wondered why you were unable to eat with your front teeth?

Yes, I had the same thing happen, more on the right side than the left and only when I took the aligner out to eat. Don't worry, I'm sure it is normal.

Hi all

Update on my treatment - just over 9 weeks into my treatment and my dentist is really happy, yesterday he removed most of my composite blobs and took impressions of my teeth to send off to the lab for my plastic retainer to be made. The glorious 12th (August) will be the day I can take the Inman Aligner out and have the retainer in, he thinks from that point another four weeks and my teeth should be strong enough to have the veneers fitted, then after another few weeks of wearing the retainer at night only and slowly weaning myself off it, if all is well I should have the permanent metal retainer wire fitted to the back of my teeth.

I can't explain how happy I feel right now, my teeth are really straight, the only downside is that now he has removed my blobs, the rear spring has nothing to hold it in place and so has dropped to the bottom of my front teeth causing my speech to deteriorate again, ah well only another couple of weeks and I should be speaking more normally again.

Advice to all - stick with it, it will be worth the end result and the annoyance of wearing it for all those hours!!
