I'm ecstatic: after the pain/annoyance of braces, elastics, jaw surgery, liquid diets, crown lengthening, etc., my braces will be removed on September 4th, 2014! I am so happy, I can't contain myself. Finally my journey is coming to an end!
Braces removed for 3rd and final time July 14, 2016!!!!

Thank you! I'm still trying to decide if I want to get both Hawleys and Essix retainers because I'm concerned my teeth will shift in the 4 days I have to wait to get my Hawleys but I would get Essix same day because they make those on site. It would cost me $350 to get Essix but I have to have crowns done so I would need to replace the upper Essix for $175 on top of that. Maybe a compromise and get Hawley on top and Essix on bottom?

Yippeeeeee!!!! Omg, I'm thrilled to hear you'll be getting them off soon! Can't wait to see the results.
You definitely have a retainer dilemma there... with all the money you've already spent I can imagine it hurts to "throw away" money at the Essix since you'll just have to have it remade. I would probably wait for the Hawley - your teeth might shift a bit but they won't shift so much that the Hawley won't fit. Once you start wearing it they'll go back to where they were - might hurt a little bit though!

Thanks! You're right, I'm just being super-cautious and paranoid. I'm getting the wrap around Hawleys and I think those allow for better retention/quicker adjustments based on what I've read about them. I'm wondering what the comfort level is of a Hawley for a bottom retainer vs. Essix? I think most people have said upper Hawleys are more comfortable but I haven't read much about lower Hawleys.
