My journey starts here!

#1 Post by finnan13 »

Hello everybody.

My name is Antony, I'm almost 27 and I live in Liverpool in the UK.

I guess I'm on here because I have had my braces fitted today, in preparation for double jaw surgery in approx 2 years' time.

I'm so happy that they're finally fitted; it's taken such a long and lengthy process over the past year. (I've needed two palatially impacted canines removing, bridges have been sectioned)

Fingers crossed I will finally have things settle down for a while and, in time, have my double jaw surgery to fix my hideous underbite!

I'd be interested in speaking to anybody, especially U.K based, that is around the same stage as I am for jaw surgery. it'll be nice to know that there are people in the same situation!

Speak soon,
Ginge x

Welcome to the board and congrats on getting your braces! I will be getting double jaw surgery in the future as well. There are lots of people from the UK here as well.

One thing...you may want to consider removing your photo. This can be found on the message board rules:

Ello Anthony, I'm in the UK too but a bit further down the road, just over three months out of double jaw surgery and genioplasty to resolve an underbite... Good luck with your journey, and top guerning by the way :D

Nice to meet everybody! It's been a pretty smooth first week in braces! The wax is a God send, nothing rubs all day and then at night it's quite sore but I'm pleased! The children in my class haven't even noticed I'm wearing braces so I was pretty glad about that!

Will update when they're tightened next week!

:)

Hi there!

I've just started my journey too! I had the braces on last weds and due to have my wisdom teeth out on the 5th December, then lower jaw surgery in around 2 years time. It's so good to finally get things started after a 2 year wait! Hope your first adjustment went well.

Hello all!

I've had my spacers put between my molars and pre-molars today. So far, I can honestly say that the pain is intense- goodness knows how I'll cope for the next two weeks.

Hope you're all doing well!

I am also having double jaw surgery with a two year time span of Braces + Surgery! I got my braces in June! Glad to hear you got your braces on!

I had spacers too, they were okay, kind of irritating, but not super painful for me. One fell out and instead of going back to the ortho, I just put it back in(it way the night before my appointment anyways).lol

Braces are a lot easier to deal than spacers! :-) Except some days are achier than others, but I think that has to do with barometric pressure and possibly some minor strain on jaws (especially those of us who need jaw surgery).

Hello all-
What a few weeks it has been! I had my spacers put in three weeks ago ready for the metal rings around my molars. One fell out so I had to go back and have it snapped back in. Then a bracket pinged off in my sleep so that was fixed too!

Last Thursday I had my rings around my molars and I can honestly say that since then I've been miserable with the pain! Mouth ulcers are the size of 10p pieces where they're rubbing; the wax provides minimal relief but it's something- I'm just worried that the pain will ruin my Christmas.

Have any of you got any hints/tips on relieving the pain or should I go back to my Ortho?

P.S this is a many rant but I'm still happy to have my braces and they're making massive progress in a few small weeks!

:)
