Shivering in braces?

#1 Post by sull88 »

It has been a verrrry long winter in New England. Just had the unpleasant experience of shivering with my new braces on. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I felt like my teeth were being driven up into my jawbone. Sull

I live in the Midwest and that's been me part of January and ALL of February. This week we're finally getting back to the 50's! Whoo!
Shivering in braces is no fun, but it's a lot worse when you're shivering with spacers in. Haha. :) Last year I went in the frozen food section at the grocery store with spacers in and the tooth chattering pain was horrible. Haha.

I had not experienced the brace shiver until I experienced "the brace shiver". Holy smokes, I had just had my braces put on and felt like death when I stepped outside below freezing without a coat and had to stay that way for awhile. It was so uncontrollable like how a really bad & helpless Charley Horse feels with the zing of a broken bone feeling. Fun times. My kids thought that was pretty funny watching me try to brace and hold my face down. It does go away and you can shiver like the pros again after a month or two! I had gotten unlucky because my brace brackets kept smashing/pinching my inner cheeks when I would shiver too. So glad to be past that!

I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who got to experience the "Brace Shiver". I just have to remember to wear enough layers. I am not looking forward to next winter since I work outside all of the time. Sull

Oh yeah! I couldn't believe such a small natural reaction could cause such
a strange feeling, and the noise in my brain was deafening.

Winter just will not give up here in New England. Got the brace shiver again and it is a stranger feeling than the time I broke my wrist. It feels like you are wiggling the broken bone around and several of my teeth felt numb afterwards. I can't wait until spring arrives. Sull :braces_angry:
