Hi docs,
I previously wrote that during my treatment, a slight cross-bite formed on my left-side in fixing cross-bite on the right side and centering the midline.
The ortho. tried to fix the new cross-bite by bracketing the flared second molar on the upper left side. He said this would pull the teeth out, but it instead started bringing the second molar down and in, and it no longer fit with the bottom second molar. He had the wire on it for two months, and
today he cut the wire off that second molar.....now the second molars aren't fitting together........I don't care about the slight cross-bite on my left side and my bite felt great before he tried to correct the cross-bite.....is it possible to reverse treatment and get that second molar flared again to fit with the bottom molar? As I said the wire was pressing on it for two months.......will it correct itself over time?

crossbite
If you want your tooth back where it came from - this is probably not too hard to reverse. things like to relapse sometimes anyway.
heck, I think I have a similar case in my office. I am having to put two upper second molars back where they came from.

Dr. J.,
I saw my ortho. this morning about getting that second molar back to
its starting position. All he did was grind the molars a little. He said the
best way to get the upper second molar back was to just let it drift
back. He said it would take about a week. However, these molars
are way off now and I find that hard to believe. You said you have a
case where you are putting molars back where they came from.
How do you go about doing that? See, this is a problem for me b/c
every time I talk those molars are slamming into each other. I feel the grinding the ortho did missed the point.

well here goes...
On my patient, and she has had to be patient bless her heart.. I made an impression of her top and bottom teeth and (with a bite registration) and had the lab make her a splint that covered all of her teeth but the second molars when she bites down.
This way the teeth are free to float as much as possible. Otherwise she had a unique thing that kept her second molars from correcting: her bite!
I am just opening her bite at nite with the splint to allow unimpeded relapse of the teeth. I hate it for her but that's orthodontics, we are not working on robots and sometimes the doc makes a valiant effort that just plain don't work! I have confessed my sins and throw myself on the mercy of the court.
Well, actually that's not funny now that I think about it....
