Can retainers move teeth slightly back?

Can retainers move teeth slightly back?

I had a period I could not wear the retainers because of mouth surgery, teeth only moved slightly, can my retainers now move them back?

I use my retainer to move them back to their original positions if I stopped wearing my retainer for a bit
