Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
Just got my traditional metal braces today and I love them! Glad to have finally started treatment.
Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I have ceramics but I have to say, I think if I had metal braces I'd be ok. If you're self-conscious enough to get braces then what difference does having them on make? At least with braces you know you're fixing a problem.

Well today I finally got my braces on!! I went all metal with pearl ligatures, and I am so happy!! They obviously feel really strange right now but I actually like how they look! They aren't as intrusive looking as I had thought they would be. They do feel huge in my mouth though so, considering they are so much smaller than the ceramic I was going to get, I'm so pleased with my choice. Thank you to everyone who posted about their experiences as it really did help!!! The only thing that's bothering me at the moment is the back of one of the wires poking my cheek!!! Congratulations! I am on the same road in getting metal braces pretty soon! How are you feeling and how was the process? Is there anyway you can show pictures to see how the pearl ligatures look on the metal braces? I'm still debating on which kind to get!Handsdown wrote:Well today I finally got my braces on!! The process was really quick and totally pain free, it was a little uncomfortable but nothing bad at all. I'm feeling surprisingly good!! I was very pleasantly surprised at how they look. The pearl ligs are a cross between clear and silver, very discreet and kind of pretty!? If braces can be?! Haha... I imagined I would feel extremely self-conscious and sorry of myself but I'm actually just really proud of myself for finally doing it! Eating is no fun, my teeth ache (but ibuprofen helps a lot) and poking wires are a b#*?h!! But other than that I'm peachy so far it's nowhere near as bad as I imagined... But then I do have a very overactive imagination!!braceyfaceyjulie wrote:

I can't put pics up right now as I don't have any on my computer but I will post some soon. If you're debating between metal and ceramic brackets, I would say that whatever you choose I'm sure you'll be happy with them! For me the ceramics just weren't worth the extra money or time in braces. Ceramics do look great but I'm so happy with my metal ones. They do feel bulky and I know clear are even bigger so that makes me very happy with my choice!

Congratulations! Metal brackets are great and I'm sure you are going to be delighted with your decision. Poking wires can be easily trimmed so just let your ortho know and I'm sure they will fit you in for a quick appointment to snip any sharp ends. As your treatment progresses, poking wires are a sign of movement and space closure but at this early stage probably caused by the ends not being cut short enough.Handsdown wrote:Well today I finally got my braces on!! I've now got an appointment to trim this long wire, the orthodontists office were lovely when I called and booked me in to get it sorted out .Thanks for the tip it's really only that and attempting to eat that's bothering me at the moment! I'm loving my bracesNeilH wrote:

I suppose it's quite a big decision as you have to live with your choice for a long time. I like to coloured type but probably would go for the most subtle.

I get my braces on next month and originally I'd chosen clear on top and metal on the bottom. However, I'm rethinking things and will call my orthodontist to request all metal.

Great choice! I'm so happy with my decision to go all metal. You really do start to forget about them and I personally like the way they look anyway. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your decision too Good luck!!bracedorange wrote:I get my braces on next month and originally I'd chosen clear on top and metal on the bottom. I have metal on the bottom and was debating getting ceramics on the top when I get them, but I've decided against it.
One reason was the additional cost, but the main reason, which will sound odd, but to me, ceramic braces look a bit strange / attract more scrutiny.
What I mean by that is when I see someone with ceramics, for a second I think there's something 'odd' / different looking about their teeth, then I look closer and think 'ahaaa, braces', eventually.
Where as with metal its evident straight away that its braces.
Sounds strange I know!
The other thing is I think ceramics can sometimes look a bit yellowish / almost dirty, even when they're perfectly clean.
Its just my oddness I suppose, I'll be getting metal on top.

i got clear ceramic damon on top teeth and metal on the bottom ones. The first 3 months I only had clear on top and some people at work didn't realise i had braces for 2 weeks, customers at work did not realise them either except for 1 customer who pointed them out! lol
As soon as i got the bottom metal ones on 3 months later.. could some people pick out that i had braces! so they are definitely invisible!
The insignia clear are very good in not staining, even eating beetroot didnt stain them.. they do go pinkish but after brushing with whitening toothpaste.. scrub up well :)
My ortho has also swore by that you could also eat a curry with them and no staining should occur.. have yet to try something spicy to test out his theory :P

I'm happy with my choice. I didn't want to pay $5K for clear braces since they're going to be inside my mouth for a couple of years. I chose metal Damon braces on all teeth.

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I initially had a combination of clear and metal braces when I first got braces 3 years ago. I'll be getting braces again on Monday (oh joy of joys) and I went with all metal: the metal ones are smaller, more comfortable, and are more durable, all of which are important since I now have 9 crowns, 8 of which I didn't have before with braces. So I'm satisfied with my decision: I won't say happy because I do not want to be in braces again, heh.

I started treatment today and I got metal. I was thinking about ceramic, but I've noticed that with people who have them it's not really inconspicuous. They are bulky to me. Plus I get to change up the colors at every appointment!
