For my records and impressions (second consultation) I paid $305.00 and my braces will be 5.15K for 20 months.

That is odd. When I was looking I checking in with a dozen, and visited like 5. Not a single one had any charges for initial consultations. Maybe because there are so many in the area competing for business.

Whether a consult is complimentary or not, I think that will be factored in to the total cost of the treatment plan. However, if I knew the consult will not be free, I would not bother in the case I may not like the ortho then I wouldn't be out $125.

I went to two consultations and both were free, as they should be. You are shopping for a service and if they want your business they should court you to get it. Simple as that. A doctor's time may be worth alot of money, but only when I choose to fill up his time as a patient.

In my opinion, it's a consultation so it should be free. They're making money off a provided service/treatment not vice versa. My consult was free, included photos, filing of paper work, meeting with the treatment coordinator where I got the exact price of treatment, and an extensive chat with two orthodontists who devised a thorough plan of how they wanted to proceed treating my teeth. This was done in one session. I think the provider having several sessions is not only a waste of time but also questionable if charging people for every visit.
