Inman aligners

Hi. Just back from dentist Ive had mine on for three weeks. The dentist says they are moving but I'm yet to notice. I'm taking pics if my teeth every week so I can compare them. My speech is still awful so a little embarrassing when I'm out and about but don't mind because it will be all worth it in the end. I have appointments every 2-3 weeks with my dentist. Do do u know when your getting fitted for your inman?

Hi Treece. Hopefully your speech will get better, I still have trouble saying j's and ch's! I have my next set of impressions in a week so hopefully not much longer to go with the expander. I've got a lot of lovely gaps appearing and photos of me aren't too cracky lol.

Hi All...

Quite new to this site so not sure how to post correctly so apologies. Just had my aligner fitted just over 2 weeks ago and all well so far, not major worries but hopefully it will all be over in 12 weeks.... I see that for a lot of people have had it on longer than first told, is this the norm??

Hi guys, hope everyone's doing ok. Had my check up last week and was hoping to have moulds taken for my Inman but was told they needed one canine to "jump my bite" first. Got another two weeks of expansion because of one stubborn tooth. Hey ho, it'll happen

So i'm starting to post here because im trying to learn more about inman aligners and I guess I need to post a certain amount of times to view images lol. Anyways I have a consultation this week. I had braces when I was younger but didn't wear the retainer (oops) and my two front teeth have become crooked again. Nothing too major no bite probems or anything at least so hopefully this will be the right treatment for me.

I've just started my Inman aligner journey today. In a bit of discomfort but hoping it works because my wedding is in 7 weeks! My dentist is confident I will see good results even in such a short time..does this seem unreasonable?

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site. I had my inman aligner fitted a little over 2 weeks ago (28th jan) and so far no noticeable movement. I am due for my first visit since having it fitted in a little under 2 weeks (25th feb) to have my first filing session so hopefully they will start to take place.
I've been given a key to tighten it once a week. I have already tightened it 3 times which is once too many. The reason for this is because it just does not feel tight. When i tighten it feels tight for an hour then just feels completely normal. My teeth no longer feel sensitive or wobbly I don't know if that is good or bad!? I am tempted to tighten it again but not sure if this is going to do any damage? I figured as long as I can fit it in my mouth it's all good?
Has anybody else rebelled against the one tighten a week rule??

Hi Claire,

I got my inman on near enough the same day as you. I was told 1 turn a week but like you it did not feel much different so I rebelled and turned it an extra one! I should have turned it 2 times now but I've done it 3 in total. I had fixed braces as a teenager and they were so much more painful but at least that felt like things were moving! I'm a bit worried that there isn't enough pressure. I wouldn't keep turning though, they have a maximum amount of turns, around 14 I think.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I have turned 4 times now in 3 weeks and I am not going to turn again until after my appointment on Thursday which will be 4 weeks from fitting. I have an appointment to have my teeth filed down to create room for them to move so I don't think tightening again will make much difference as they will have nowhere to go.
It's good to speak to someone who has had theirs the same time. Have you seen any movement yet? I didn't think mine had moved at all but its definitely not as bulky when I have my mouth closed so I am thinking that they must have moved back a bit.
When are you due in next? Has your dentist mentioned anything about filing yours?

I also had a fixed brace for a year when I was 14 and my teeth were perfect! I even had a little discreet fixed retainer at the back to hold them in place which my orthodontist told me needed to be removed 2 years later. They removed it and my teeth gradually started moving back.
Wish I had just kept the thing on!

I've searched everywhere to find somebody who is going through the same as me and finally I've found somebody! My inman has an expander as I told the dentist I didn't like the sound of filing. He is happy to wait a few weeks to see if that gets enough room without having to do any filing. My problem is the two teeth next to my front teeth are set back. I want them pulling forwards. They have moved I think as far forwards as they will fit at the moment. I don't think there is enough room now for them to come any further. Hopefully the expander will create a bit of space. I think they can create around 3-5mm in total. I did read somewhere that the expanded jaw bit is temporary and relapses after treatment. I hope that doesn't mean they will move back :( you will have to let me know how the filing goes. I'm scared of my teeth looking smaller if I did that ... have you got loads of ulcers/blisters on your tongue? It's driving me mad/painful. I'm on holiday at the moment so due back to see him on Wednesday. Make sure you take lots of pictures... I thought they'd move quicker than they have. How many weeks did your dentist say it would take? He initially said 9 for me, but because I don't want filing it may take up to 14.
Definitely get the permanent retainer again. I'm getting a clear invisalign style one too, to sleep in forever.. it's a big commitment isn't it!

I haven't taken many pictures really. I took a couple before it started and the odd one here and there to compare but they don't look any different. My dentist took quite alot of pics on my first appointment and he also gave me a mould of how my teeth will look and how they looked at the start did you get that? My dentist has been pretty amazing to be honest I am so happy with the service i've received so far.
He doesn't now how long yet he said he will be able to tell me when I go to see him on Thursday as it will be my first appointment since fitting. I can't see it being as little as 8 weeks like some people. It's only one tooth that needs moving back really which is one of my two front teeth it slighly sticks out.
Omg yes my tongue gets really sore because I tend to suck on the aligner when it is in my mouth haha!

Had my first 4 week review today, had my teeth filed for the first time and it was over in seconds, didn't feel anything, no pain or discomfort at all and I am really soft when it comes to pain! Scale and polish is a million times worse!
He said they have definitely moved a lot - still not sure I can see it. He told me to keep on tightening to create more room for them to move etc (didn't mention the fact that I had tightened once or twice too many!) I have noted how many times I have tightened though so that I do not go over 14!
My next appointment is in another 4 weeks and he said maybe another 8 weeks after that and I will be done - That sounds like a long time to me but keep telling myself I am quarter way there and it doesn't sound too bad!

General question to all I guess - obviously the Inman is often a good choice for fairly minor cosmetic issues... How did you decide to spend the money on something that most people might not even notice? I know people never see the problems I see with my teeth so I'm back and forth trying to justify if it'd be worth it. What swung it for you guys?

Sorry I haven't replied I've been away. How are the after effects of the filing? Do your teeth look any smaller? I went yesterday and he agreed that mine had moved. One of my teeth is a bit stuck now and has nowhere to go (not enough room). He wanted to file but I said no. I let him do either side of the 'fangs' and that was it. Didn't hurt it was just a bit uncumfortable as he got the strip stuck.

I think I'm going to be another 12 weeks too. Sounds a long time that doesn't it! :( hopefully it will go quick. We've done a month already! I find myself sat with my thumb in my mouth pulling on the springy bit to push the teeth more. I asked about tightening it more often and he said it's counter productive. Something about the bone not growing and it can slow things down.
