how much worse do bite turbos make trying to chew food?

#1 Post by Tyrantblade »

It seems to be 1-2 weeks is how long you can expect to not chew food after getting braces.

Well how much worse do bite turbos make things?

One if mine is on a second molar and one is on a first molar i think and put towards the front of the teeth, which seems to differ from typical placement (when I was looking up bite turbos all the orthodontists websites seem to say its typical to get them on the back of your top incisors) and makes it so none of my teeth currently touch

They are the only thing I super hate right now, and can only imagine what 3 months is gonna be like (on the plus side because my bite is probably in the top 10% for how bad/off it looks, I can probably expect to see a lot of improvement by then)
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

You have my sympathies Tyrantblade! I got bite turbos 5 weeks ago along with my upper brackets. They are the ones cemented to the back of my upper central incisors. They are annoying, none of my teeth touch, at all. For the first three or so weeks I hated eating as my jaw would be stopped from closing by the lower incisors abruptly hitting the turbos. It is very jarring, but mostly not painful. I'm afraid I'm stuck with them for the long haul, so I've adapted by chewing slowly and deliberately. Over the last two weeks I found I can get through a meal with only one or two unexpected collisions with the turbos. I realize this is probably not the answer you were looking for, but I think you can used to them and relearn to chew, just go slowly, it will become more natural over time. Hang in there, I do believe it will be worth it. -Prometheus

I had a hard time with my bite turbos. I stopped eating salads and any food that required grinding (especially tough meat).

My best advice is to cut up food into bite-sized pieces to eliminate the need for chewing. There was a time I would eat my burgers and sandwiches with a fork and knife.

Got lingual braces and bite turbos. I personally don't have any other combination to compare it with but I'm sure it's harder than eating with non-lingual braces and no bite turbos. I can barely chew so I have to force food down my throat like a snake. Grin and bare it! :)

I have bite turbos on the back of my two front teeth and cement buildups in two of my molars. This is the way I started out with my braces about 3 months ago. It took a while to get used to eating again at first and I notice I chew much more slowly and deliberately. When my family finishes dinner, I'm still working at it for another 10 minutes or more. Sometimes, it's just too much work and I stop. I guess it depends on what kind of day I've had. They also really contribute to a lisp and what I call "motor mouth fatigue." if I talk too much or too fast, the darn things get in the way and I sound ridiculous. I suppose they're doing what they're supposed to do, but I'm ready for them to go.

So I barely got turbos as well as my bottom braces and it had been a pain for me. Along with the pain of having fresh bottom braces...I have to deal with the turbos. Eating has been such a pain too...since I can't bite down all they way... Also I have been sounding really weird mostly because my tongue keeps going over the turbos making me mess up when I talk. Now I have to present to a class where I'm gonna sound weird..however my friends disagree and say I sound fine. Maybe it's just I feel the turbos while I talk and hear it weird as I say it. Does anyone have any advise with turbos?? Pleaseee thanks!

If your friends say you sound fine, then you probably do! I'm sure your presentation will go great. In a couple weeks your brain will get used to the different sensation in your mouth, and you'll be good at crushing food between your teeth that don't really meet. Hang in there.

I've got a weird kind of bite turbo - it's ceramic! I super duper hated it for the first week or so because I couldn't bring any of my teeth together and sounded five year old, but my mouth slowly adjusted it and now the only thing I can't eat is potato chips because I can't get them small enough to swallow without them stabbing me! Don't worry, it gets better.

Well it definitely did get much better for me when they wore down, then i hated them again for a little while after they built them back up at my 1st adjustment, now im getting used to them again, but still hating that my bite feels a little weird from them being built back up
