Jaw Surgery

#1 Post by tyler3178 »

I recently just got the CT scan of my jaw and my insurance approved the scan, so would that mean the surgery would normally be approved, since I was told the scan is normally not covered. How long did it take for you to hear news after the CT scan from the insurance company, I have Anthem. I know patience is key, but I've waited well over 10 years for this procedure and I can't take the wait anymore! Thanks for the help in advance.

Talk to your surgeon and your insurance company. It's the only way to find out. Everyone is different.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

YMMV, but for me it took about two weeks after the OMFS office sent my "package" for Anthem to render a decision. (The first decision was "we need more info"; took another week and half after that for me to receive the approval letter.)

I don't think there's much correlation between the CT and approval for the actual surgery. (A CT scan only costs a couple hundred bucks vs. the many thousands they are on the hook for for the surgery itself.)
